ahh i see! yeah mine snapped about 6 months ago so i welded it up. Got a few new pieces from my local SEAT dealership and fitted them (white clip and a large white clicker type thing <--great description haha!) anyway..over time theres now play in the top of the pedal like i said :s
I'l have to get under and have a good luck..could be an easy explanation..

I mentioned the spring because when I had my clutch pedal welded up I couldn't get the spring back in so just left it off, over time I noticed I couldn't get into gears, anyhoo if you put got foot under the clutch and pull up and it comes out a bit, you will know what I mean when you try it, then the spring is missing/ not in place correctly... Give it a bash let me know if any effect

the problem you are having sounds like its the pedal adjuster! if its adjusted too far out then its in default mode! the top of the pedal is slack and the bite point is literaly on the floor! sound like your problem???

if its the problem you will need to remove the lower scuttle panel, at the top of the pedal (well under the dash!) will be a black box with a wire on it and a small white plunger that touches it! it is screwed into a bracket, when the pedal snaps it usualy rips the thread off and knocks it out of adjustment! (made of plastic) just screw it in or out to adjust!
