Recently bought a 2002 Seat Ibiza 1.2 for my daughter to learn to drive. Indicators and hazards flash OK, but there is no sound. Any suggestions please.

Yes thats what I thought. I've had half the dash out and cant find the relay. Anybody know where to find it?

The 2002 model does'nt have a relay, it has a electronic timer unit in the instrument panel which is sounded through a small speaker. This happend to my son's car we were quoted a silly £200 from the dealer for a replacement unit as they don't repair this fault. What we did was to take out the insturment panel put a multimeter across the speaker terminals and check for pulses which were fine, then solder a small speaker to the existing one works perfect.

Does that speaker make the beep noise when the fuel goes low?
Also, does that mean that the indicatorsare timed in the instrument cluster, not the central electrics ecu?
there's a relay built into the hazard switch - might be able to add a speaker/beeper to it behind there quite easily
disconnect the hazard switch and see if the indicators still work, if they don't then you could tap in to an earth and a L/R signal to activate any noise ya wanted via a 12v piezo buzzer or a fog horn if so desired

Thanks for the information - we've been away for a few days so only picked this info up tonight.
When you say that the timer is in the instrument panel, does this mean that I have to remove the entire instrument panel. I.e. Speedo, revecounter etc.
If so is there any instructions I can get access to?
If not, what do I need to do to find the timer unit, or the speaker, whichever is easier to find.

You are not getting confused with the earlier (preMK4 era) cars that had everything built into the hazard switch are you?

Hope you get this i've pressed a few buttons so don't really know where this message will end up. Yes you will have to remove the entire instrument panel but don't panic this is really quite easy. This is purely from memory, first remove the steering wheel cowling. this will expose screws that hold a plastic securing strip in position this must be removed and was quite tight as far as i remember. This will allow you to wiggle out the entire panel disconect the cable/wire connectors at the back and take entire panel into the house, unscrew the rear of the panel this will allow access to the speaker about the size of a ten pence piece. If any one has access to elsa win would they please check this out for Brian THANK YOU

To Beezanick yes you are right all the warning noises, lights, indicators, ect, come from the speaker not too sure wether the indicator timeing is in the panel or ecu

Thanks for the information. Have just got the instrument panel out. Took 1/2 hour to remove the final connector on the left - it must have got really tight over the years.
I'll strip it down tomorrow and test out the speaker. Hopefully it will not work, and I can fit another sounder of some sort and everything will be OK

Indicator OK - Airbag fault now
Soldered a couple of wires onto the speaker, re-fitted instrument panel and there was a low voltage on the wires. Tried a Piezo sounder from maplin, but sound was barely audible. Tried an old speaker from transister radio, and hey presto - typical clicking sound from both indicators and hazard flashers. Dont know if low petrol sounder works yet. No sound from 'Left Headlights On' alarm, but I think there is a problem with the door switch.
However, when I reconnected the instrument panel, both the engine management light and air bag warning lights came on. Engine management went off next time I started the engine, but the airbag light is still on. I thought I would try disconnecting the battery to see if it reset. Any other siggestions from anyone.

I wondered if I may have pulled a wire to the steering wheel airbag, or if as you suggest it only needs resetting.
I dont have access to VAG system.
Looking on the net their are lots of different ones, some of which only do engine diagnosis. Can you advise a good one to buy, and how much it is. This is the only car in the family which is VW/Seat/Audi, so I assume what I buy will only do the Ibiza.
Is there a VAG diagnostics service offered by forum members to other members at a more reasonable cost than dealers charge.
(Incidently I had an engine warning light after driving at 70 on the motorway for an hour. Dealer charged £80, to tell me cat is below 100%. CO was OK so I am leaving it for now. Same problem occured next time on motorway but light reset itself after driving round town for a few miles)

Another Silent Indicator
Hey guys,
Picked my car up yesterday, 02 MK4 1.2 S and it's having the silent indicator problem!

but I don't really understand any of what it says! I've never messed around with a cars internals etc so don't feel confident doing it. Is there anywhere in the handbook that says it does click so I can take it back to where I had it and show them it's not working as I do have 1 years parts and labour warranty.

I would take it back personally, as you will have a nightmare doing it yourself.

Purchased VAG com cable from Ebay. It arrived with software on CD. Worked perfectly, and airbag fault cleared and now working OK.

I don't know what the regulations say about this, whither this mandated signaling function must have a sounder or if a dash panel repeater light is enough. Maybe you could push by saying that it is required by law - it would end up being easier for the garage to sort rather than try to find out the regulations - worth a go!? I'd try that approach ASAP instead of dragging your heels and trying out the warranty which probably does not actually cover anything that is likely to go wrong.

Had all these problems with my partner's Seat Cordoba TDI130 2003. I followed the advice on other forums and replaced the hazard switch - no difference. Still no sound. I should have realised that there was also no warning note for the lights on, door open ie the speaker unit must have gone. There is a technical bulletin on ElsaWin for this when I checked. It's not the relay, which isn't attached to the hazard light switch but on the relay panel hidden under a lot of plastic trim to the right and behind the instrument panel binnacle. From memory it's number 100 or 109, but it isn't that anyway. I hadn't found this thread, but the absence of sound has to be either the sound module (the speaker) which is what the TB says, or somehow the sound module has been switched off and re-setting using VAG-COM will be required. I'll post when I find out, if it's helpful to anybody. I bet it's the sound module, and if it is, thanks to the helpful people on this forum. Toodle-pip.
