FSi Ported Cylinder Heads

We have been developing the 2.0L TFSi cylinder head with porting specialist JP with some great results. The head was built with Supertech valves to an engine with low comp pistons and uprated rods with a BDM K04 turbo. Results have found (even with low comp pistons) a drop in turbo lag with full boost being reached sooner, smoother and harder than a standard engine. I dont currently have any RR results as the engine was build and fitted into a KTM X-Bow and they dont dyno well.

Some nice pics of the head:

Prices are £750 for the porting inc skimming, new high temp valve stem seals and guides (if needed)

Flow results:

Hi Nick,

Im waiting for a price on the valves as springs should be ready by now along with cams. I will price up the lot for you.

On the hybrid side i will have to speak to our hybrid makers. Its a difficult turbo to do anything to. The hotside runners are very skinny and smaller than the exhaust ports on the head which is a big restriction. We can do bigger turbo conversions for the TFSi using GT30xx turbos upto whatever power you want. Revo have some maps already done for big turbos.

With a K04, downpipe, decat, intercooler, intake and ported head you should be able to push 380bhp and upto 500nm's.

Im currently working on a new diverter valve system for the TFSi's as we have been getting some little issues when running higher boost levels on the K04's.

We can also offer pistons, rods (in stock), and ARP main and head studs for the FSi engines. Pics and prices will be up in another thread soon.

Cheers, Alex@BDM

Alex,
That is a really good price!

750.00 GBP = 1,198.37 USD

Do you have any flow data for the ports?

I am interested so if you do not want to discuss it on a public forum please feel free to email me

Let me know asap mate
also intake manifold & valve lifters + buckets will be available very soon.
Lets take this to email.

Better becareful with that stock inlet - plastic throttle body impeller plate + plastic manifold = disaster waiting to happen.Seen it happen twice now.

does anywhere do a bigger inlet manifold for these cars as the plastic ones look quite restrictive

Nothing that we have seen yet. The mani would have to encorporate the electronic valve that is in the plastic mani to allow the air to tumble correctly for the different fuel mixes. The inlet so far is good with people running 600bhp+ on them!

Its very hard to do before and after dyno runs as all the heads are ported along with Ferrea valve trains and slightly lower comp pistons. All I can say is with a X-bow with a K04 and non ported head they get around 340 bhp and with the ported head and a K04 they get around 365 bhp. The ported head can allow much greater flow of gasses in and out thus also bring the turbo is earlier and faster.

I'm still waiting for flow bench results!

Cheers, Alex

on tthat then, what would it be like on the k03 engine. which has a higher compression ratio than the k04 engines.

my mod list is as per the sig below and also including the autotech HPFP. could the ported cylinder head just be bolted on and forgot about and still make gains, or with the lower compression ratio would i need to advance the timing or have my map redone?

Also you have the price £750 incl porting. Does this also include the different pistons and rods

Hi Sy,

The X-bows have the K03 engines, but they are all changed inside once we have worked on them. Your spec list says stage 3 map, but there is no mention if yo have a K04 turbo fitted? The ported head may need a little tweeking on the maping side, but we find with the revo software that there is room in the map for the ported head to work and produce great gains. There is no need to drop compression on your car, but if you have a K04 turbo then I would advice fitting a set of forged conrods.

The price of £750 is just for the porting. Ferrea valve train kit, pistons and rods are all extra.

Cheers, Alex

thanks very much.

my tuner calls my remap a stage 3, but it is actually the equivalent map to stage 2+ still running k03

Have you thought about going K04? Nice gains to be had there.

I'm looking at getting a Vrs estate and doing engine build and K04. 360 to 380 bhp estate should be fun! How do you find your car? Many problems at all?

Ive been very very tempted with a k04. However id love to see how far i can push the k03 BWA engine as it is. Im just about to pick up a W/M kit, and De-cat, and i think my car with all of this ontop of my current spec and a custom map to utilise the W/M injection could be approaching the 300HP mark on the std K03 turbo.

A ported head and uprated valve train could also help towards that.

no problems at all with mine, great car.

the main reason im considering staying on k03 is that there are alot of k04 converted cars out there already to compete with, id like to have one of the quickest k03 cars out there. although i change my mind alot.
