All I can say is that you'll be disappointed. There's nothing really wrong with them, they're just dull cars. They're reasonably reliable now, a few known issues that you can check for, and they'll last a reasonably long time. They're priced reasonably, there's a fair few to choose from, and they're not expensive to run.
I don't like using slang words, but I feel an appropriate description of Astras would be 'meh'... buy one in beige for the full effect... (let me guess, someone is going to point out that 'meh' is actually a word according to OED?) |

not exactly the same, I know but I drove a CDTI Zafira through work and found it gutless to the point of feeling dangerous when trying to pull out out of busy junctions or onto busy roundabouts. and that was when I was driving a 1.8 petrol Focus. try and get a PD Leon or similar

Agreed.. I had a Astra sri turbo the 200bhp version, even with a few tweaks and a remap to nearly 250bhp it was still rather dull to drive

I think they're ok - my dad has a 1.7CDTI estate and I like driving it - it was certinly nicer to drive than my mk3 Ibiza, however now I have a mk5 Ibiza the Astra doesn't seem so good.
Still a good car though - ours doesn't give any bother though it can be very slow to start. Interior is a bit crappy looking as well. It's what Id call a ronseal car - does exactly what it says on the tin. |
