Leaking washer bottle
All,
Mk 1 Leon TDi 110 52 plate Does anyone know whether the Ibiza and Leon have the same washer bottle? And where is the best place (stealer parts?) to get a replacement. Looked on Ebay but would rather have a new one depending on the cost! The washer bottle is leaking somewhere, not sure if it is the pump, a seal or a cracked bottle. Just seem to run out of fluid far too quickly once filled up (a day using it hardly)! Havent got any noticeable signs of water in the footwells or boot so think it is the bottle. Once the rubbish weather is out of the way I will fill up the bottle and check for leaks! Also how easy is a new one to fit, do I need to take the wheelarch cover out or is it all acessible from the engine bay?? |

You can get to it from the engine bay, It is held down with plastic nuts easy to remove.
Check if a pipe has come off on the bottle first as it might just be a case of pushing it back on. the dealer wont charge much for a new one if needed if you mention that your a member on here they give you 10% off!

In the dry today I have filled the bottle up and it seems to be leaking from around the pump, does anyone know if the pump is included in the new water bottle?

I would say not i would expect the bottle comes on its own and the motor is separate.
When a bought a new coolant tank for mine i had to buy the cap separate.

The pump is a push fit into the bottle, sealed by an o-ring, I think?

Fitting a new washer pump
Thanks for the replies, by process of elimination found out it was the pump split/leaking. The washer bottle only emptied itself if you actually used the pump, if you filled it up and then didnt use the washers it retained the liquid.
Spoke to the Seat dealer and they wanted £45 for a new pump (dual one for front and back), £30 for a new bottle and £1 for the rubber seal. Instead of paying the £45 for the pump I managed to get a replacement from GSF car parts for £12. For reference the pump is just a push fit with the O ring seal on the washer bottle. It is quite fiddly pulling the pipes off the pump but you have to do this as you cannot get the electrical connector off until you have removed the pump: Pump removal: 1) Remove the washer pipe closest to the front of the car, beware they have notches on them to ensure the pipe doesnt come off so are quite hard to remove; 2) Pull the washer pump ertically up and away from the washer bottle (all the water in the bottle will flow out, beware); 3) Remove the other pipe; 4) Remove the electrical connection, there is clip to lift with a screwdriver. Refitting: 1) Push pump down into washer bottle; 2) Push pipes onto new pump, ensure these are pushed on fully; 3) Push electrical connection onto the top (for some reason the conenction was the other way round on the new pump but it all works); 4) Test it all works, the rear washer may take a while of pumping to get any water to it as the whole of the pipework will have drained. Hope this helps someone else. Thanks again, another common fault sorted, cannot be many left now! |
