Squeaking on ignition? (not the belt!)

I recently took my 2002 1.2 into my local mechanics to change what i thought was a worn alternator belt, fairly routine. There was a hideous screech that came for about 1-2 seconds after most start ups, and i assumed it was this.

My local mechanic is useless but cheap, so i guess they just changed the belt without even looking, but the problem is still there, and i was thinking it may be a tensioner issue or something similar?

Any help would be much appreciated, i'm a student and can't afford to keep throwing my baby at a garage!

It sounds odd but make sure the belt is routed correctly.

There are two possible ways to route the 1.2 aux bet. One only give a right angle on the alternator if you get me, so it comes accross the top of the pulley and then down. Where as the correct way means the belt routes around the alternator and back again running around the pulley itsef giving a better grip.

Could be it was wrong to start with, they routed it the same way and thus the fault is stil there.
