Hi,
What would you reccomend for the following - engine 1999 T VW Polo 1.6 Petrol 75 bhp just short of 100k no mods, short trips of 14 miles each way to work, straight on to dual carriage way and then 30mph areas. Could you also reccomend a suitable gearbox oil. Thanks Steve

Hi Steve
I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Shell Helix, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives. As a budget choice, a 10w-40 will be fine and I would either go for the Fuchs XTR, Shell Helix, Millers XSS or Motul 6100 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox*and here are the ones we have. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90.aspx If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Motul Gear 300, Redline MT90 and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Syntrax, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives. Cheers Tim

I have a 2002 `51` leon cupra 180 that is standard at the moment and was wondering what the best oil to use in this and will this be alright with a stage 1 remap, with a open cone filter and dv upgrade? I have some castrol magnatec 10w/40 and 15w/40 from previous cars in my shed, are these ok to use or should i bin them and get something else? cheers.

Hi Steve
The Magnatec is a pretty basic option for your car, especially the 15w-40. A better choice would be a 5w-40 synthetic. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn & GT1, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives. Cheers Tim

If you have that kind of budget, I'd go for either the Millers CFS as you get a litre free at the moment, or the Gulf as it's a bit cheaper than the comparable oils.
Cheers Tim

Hi Dave
Okay, if you're not sure, I reckon a top end 5w-40 is the way to go and see what it's like http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. Cheers Tim

Assuming it's got a PD engine, you need a VW505.01 oil
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-751-vw-50501-oil.aspx They're all good oils, personally I wouldn't use the semi-synthetic, simply due to the price of the Fuchs GT1. Cheers Tim

Plus looking to change the sparkplugs to NGK Iridium would i need a colder plug with the stage1? Car...2010 Leon Cupra R (265bhp) with Revo stage1 running 315bhp) Cheers Craig. |

With the work done, the oil will be getting hotter, so a 5w-40 changed annually makes sense. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives. Truth is, NGK make it so difficult to work out the iridium version as they only tell you the standard one and I have no idea what it is for your car. This is the denso one http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-4223-den...lug-vk20y.aspx Cheers Tim

Hi Oilman
Can you recommend correct engine oil? Thinking of supplying my own oil for service instead of the standard (Quantum?) oil. If so, do you know what quantity I would need for complete change on car below? Make: Seat Model: Leon Mk 2 - 2.0TDI 140 DSG Year: 2006 Engine type:2.0TDI 140 (Unsure of Code) Performance modifications: SuperChips remap Driving style: (road / off-road / track etc) Everyday road. Any other information that may be relevant: e.g. approx 185 BHP, 37,000miles covered recommendation are you looking for? Engine oil
