Mild - Aggressive Clay Bar?
Hi, So far in my detailing experience ive only ever used a Meguires clay bar and lube. I used to have a green Golf GTI and this combo was fine got rid of everything i could see. However on the silver Leon all the orange/black spots which are much more visible with the light colour just dont come off and il be working at it for hours. Can anyone recommend anything that is more aggressive than the megs kit? Obviously i dont wont to be able to ruin the car with it as ive only really started to dip my feet into detailing but at the same time i cant spend hours on single panels.
Thanks Adam

Where are the spots Adam? I take it you mean tar spots and road grime? From my personal experience, a good paint cleanser helps shift them with a little work, not too heavy mind as it's an abrasive. I have some Meguiars at home which you're more than welcome to try.

Bug and tar sport remover would be a good start but then there are some other options on cleanyourcar.co.uk

. The Megs I have is a good DIY solution and removes light marks quite well but depending on what you have, may need the informed opinions of professional detailers if it's quite bad.

there are clays there from the mild to aggressive but the aggressive can cause some marring so be carefull to polish and wax after. |

Hi guys and thanks, I really want to get the gear from cleanyourcar.co.uk as they have always been very good. I looked on their site for clays but i couldnt see how they rate them other than some say fine and I can only see the megs rates as mild or aggressive, i was going to try the red Zaino stuff ?
My main problems are tar spots and these weird like organe/brown coloured specks that if you scratch with a fingernail gets the majority off and then the rest smudges but theres so much and it takes so long to get off even with a bar. Jamjay - thanks for the offer, i need to do the whole car so probably need my own stuff as i wouldnt want to take the pi55 as im quite a waster when i use cleaning materials, most doesnt end up on the car ![]() Adam

Nothing better than a mag test
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product...bars_test.html Just aswell i didnt opt for the Zaino seems one of the cheapest is the best and only requires water to lube, decision made!

No worries Adam, I have quite alot so I don't mind if you want a go but the only thing is that it cuts back most of the cars paint protection (wax & sealant) so you'll need to reapply those afterwards.

I went the autoclay route so think that a pre clean will be very worthwhile. I really dont get how detailers do it day in and out as its just so tedious hence why i try the full detail only once or twice a year.
Im going for an all out detail day during a week off in April so il hopefully, weather permitting get a full wash, de tar, claybar, post clay wash, polish and then wax, interior hoover + wash, engine bay dust down, wheels off and good clean of the alloys and brembos and paint the inner exhaust and disc centers while im there as EBC's have less protection than the brembos did and the rust aint pretty! jamjay - how much do you have and how much is needed for a full car? All in I hope the car looks factory fresh bar the stone chips/dings which I might get seen too professionally later on.

About 2/3 of a bottle. You dont really need alot of it to be honest, it just needs working into those areas with tough to remove tar spots etc, the rest of the car can just get a normal coat as a prep for the polish.
