Great car - but one shocking problem

I've had my FR CR Tdi for 6 months now, covered 8,500 miles and think its probably the best car I've had. Unfortunately, I'm about to change jobs so the car goes back next week

I've no idea what the car scheme is for the new job, or even if I'll get a choice, so will just have to wait and see.

But there's one thing that has really bugged me about the car and I was wandering if anyone else has the same issue...

When I get out of the car and shut the door I always get an electric shock! Nothing major, but I'm now trying to find ways of shutting the door without actually touching it!

Am I alone with this shocking problem, anyone know of how to fix it??

Nope never had that issue with any car and not so far with the Leon. Maybe stop wearing nylon stockings?

Yup, same here. I put it down to my hair rubbing against the headlining and generating static

Doesn't really matter what you rub, I've had the same problem in 3 different cars. Before I also invented different ways of shutting the door without touching it. But the next metallic thing you touch shocks you anyway, so not a solution.
Best solution (working solution) is to grab hold of the doors metallic part with your hand before putting your leg down stepping out. Static goes to the car body and gets grounded.

Tend to get this occasionally from the Leon, but the wife's Yaris is a right b1tch and gets us both on a regular basis... You can hear the 'crack' as the static discharges.

The static is built up by movement between your clothing and the fabric of the car - nowt you can do about it unless you earth yourself as you get out of the car. I'm not sure touching the cars bodywork will have an effect as the car body is very well insulated from earth due to all the plastics and rubber

Sounds like my secrets out about the stockings!

Cheers for the tips! I'll try touching the metal before I step out of the car later

Now why didn't I ask this months ago rather than 5 days before the car goes...

I too get shocks off the car - it arcs like a lightning strike and I look like a complete spanner in supermarket car parks when it happens.

But to be fair, it's happened in most cars I've had, pressing buttons for the lift, even touching the missus!
