Hi All,

Thought I best start a 'Build/Upgrade' Thread now that I am beginning to 'play' with the old girl

In Summary

June 2008

Purchased a Magic Black 57 plate 2.0TSFI FR with the DSG.

Enjoyed every minute of it but after about 10 months and having seen the K1's on the Seat Website and wondering what the extra 40bhp on a Cupra might be like decided to look for one.

April 09
A road trip to EngageGear in Huddesfield mid April 09 saw me trade-in the FR and come away with an emocion red Cupra K1 on an 08 plate with the 18" black 'Orion' Alloys and bluetooth kit added at manufacture, about 9K miles on the clock.

Good Price and cheaper than the more desireable 'White' ones. Also a good time to buy given the K1 was coming to the end of it's production run and prices were beginning to increse in the second hand market. You could see as much a £2K difference for similar models!

I have to confess the white ones probably look better (when clean!) but to be honest wanted to be a little different hence the choice of red :)

First Picture(s) April 2009 after a clean

Some 'swirly' marks and holographics on the bonnet but I have 'cut' them back and removed since

Booked in for its first service - 10K miles.

Decided not to go with Stealers as couldn't face the miserable bunch that serviced my FR!

Used Autotech in Nottingham (specialist Audi / BMW / Merc / SEAT garage). Good bunch of lads there and asked them to put the Revo Stage 1 trial on.

Loved the trial, made a huge difference and decided that was a mod I would have to have one day. Unfortuantely didn't get the best out of the trial as had it on the day before a long old poke on the motorway from Nottingham to Portsmouth, primarily in rush hour :(

Mid March 2010

Went to body shop for quote on respray of front bumper and bonnet given appear to have excessive stone chipping.

Which I hadn't! Sods law on way back SatNav took me 'offroad' and ended up bottoming out on a dirt track scratching the bumper

Still to be sorted :(

Off to Monster Motorsport, time for Revo, at last!

Booked in for a before and after RR as well.

Quickly slapped in a pipercross panel filter before going. Can't comment on if this made much difference before revo as only in for trip to Monster Motorsport!

Rolling Road - Before and After
revo_map.jpg

Going back in for a re-run on the rollers as numbers seemed to be a little down both on the before and after runs (should make 240bhp before and around 300bhp after). Don't think being forced to put normal UL petrol in instead of V-Power helped as gargae had run out.. grrrrr

This could just be dyno lottery though, car drives much smooother with more poke!

ITG Filter and NGK Iridium plugs due in next week plus a revisit to RR. Updates on those and install to follow

Pipercross panel filter will be available for anyone who wants, PM me. Think it was £40 new but seeing as it is now used (1 week lol) happy to let go for £25 ono

aaaah, nice too see another Red K1 :D

Car looks great mate, I really like the black finish on the wheels. Mine are standard finish, but will probably get them powder coated black later in the year.

I have the same problems re the paint work, mine has just hit 10k now and bugger me the bonnet is goosed  same story when i had my Focus RS. I'll be getting the front re-sprayed later in the year and Venture Shield added to the front areas! I think the red cars show swirls worce, hence i'm getting a G220 and some tuition :)

I'd like too get similar mods, plus lowering springs and a blue flame zorst and thats as far as i'd go.

Nice car man, hoping to go the same route as you pending another no claims bonus (touch wood), I'll keep an eye out for an update on the ITG.

Strange figures there mate.

Yes all look a bit strange to me. Hopefully will be sorted next time on the rollers.May not be the map but possibly something else causing the drop, not sure. Will all come out in the wash soon hopefully and if not Monster will be servicing it soon so if any power leaks they will hopefully detect.

I don't want to get too worried obout the numbers but they probably a bit further from the mark than expected. A few HP here and there I would expect but 15=25 suggests to me either not setup right on the RR or a power leak from somewhere. We will see :)

Nice car mate - mine is exactly the same. Red K1 with the black 18"s. The only difference is mines got the black rear spoiler rather than the red. I love mine like - only had it 3 weeks. Looking to put 1 or 2 mods on it later on. Once i save up my pennies after buying the car!!

Whats the filter like?? I had a KN on my old car and that was 'ok'.

08 April 2010

Monster Motorsport called and said my ITG Maxogen kit had arrived this morning and they also had my NGK iridium plugs in so nipped over to them at lunch time to pick up the kit.

Spoke to the guys their who said since my visit 2 other K1's had been in for a revo stage 1 and a before and after RR and showed very similar result to mine (one slightly less, one slightly more but only by a few bhp). This has reassured me therefore unlikely to be anything wrong with my motor!

Anyway, started the job just after lunch.....

Installation Overview Notes

  1. Engine covers are a pain in the Arse! 2nd time I have removed this and still a pain to remove. Despite using sharp force in and upward motion while push towrds back as instructed and knowing where the mounts are it gave in a nd cracked this time! (I'm sure I am not the first or the last person to do this)
  2. The right tools help! - Gave up trying to remove the standard turbo hose clip with a pair of mole grips (too difficult to reach). Had to pay a visit to a friends garage to borrow a pair of hose clamp pliers. Much easier when you have the right tools!
  3. Installation relatively straight forward but did involve some jiggling about to mate the parts together. Two people make this job much easier
  4. Supplied installation instructions I would say are very good
  5. Kit excellent quality but the jubilee clips they supply are NOT, 3 broke while tightening (another trip out to get some replacements)
  6. Not sure about the heat shield and the enclosure around the filter? Sure it keeps the heat out but the original air intake spot is now closed off by the enclosure and the only visible place I can see where the air gets to the filter is through the small holes in the front bumper vent. I find this strange!
Performance Notes
  1. Car now has a much better sound. You can definately hear the 'whoosh' of the turbo now both inside and outside the car
  2. Would also say now sounds a little more 'throaty'
  3. Manufacture claims 40whp increase on a modified vehicle after installing the ITG kit. Well I maybe just getting excited by the new noises (or REVO beginning to 'learn' new edition, if thats what it does?) but I doubt it gives that much as I wouldn't say I am currently 'feeling' any increase in power. A new RR due shortly which will hopefully show the true increases

I will be giving some thought to the cold air feed to the filter in the next few days. My feeling is to add some ducting from the lower bumper vent and possibly utilising the orginal feed by doing likewise and porting that through or around the new heat shield. Anyone done this?

PS. I did do some before and after videos but having watched them back i'm not sure it does the install justice but can upload them if people want to hear it?

Car's looking good! From what I've read on here is that the ECU will adapt to the new intake and in a couple of days it should be running better? Some-one can correct me if I'm wrong.

Still thinking of getting a BF exhaust?

Feel free to upload your vids, I'd like to hear the ITG fitted :)

Yes I heard that too. Would be interested to know if indeed the REVO does 'learn' I did NOT disconnect the battery either as some posts suggested the ECU resets but to be honest really no need to disconnect battery for this install.

I'm just editting a few clips down and will put vids up soon

Aye I wasn't too sure about disconnecting the battery when I get round to installing the intake.

Do you find the ITG too intrusive at all?

When you say intrusive do you mean in terms of 'in cabin' noise? You can definately hear the whoosh more inside. Personally I do not find it intrusive.

I haven't done any 'inside' the cabin videos but below are some videos done 'at legal speeds' from outside the car.

It maybe a bit difficult to pick it though as i'm not 'ragging it' and the road noise probably drowns it out a bit but may give you an idea?

Videos are uploaded in HD but may take some time to process as just done;

Driverby 2 with ITG fitted (probably hear it better on this one)

I'll see if I can do some 'in cabin' stuff for you might give you a better idea and make you decide if too much. Also note this is the ITG fitted to engine with REVO Stage 1 only (no other mods such as aftermarket DV or DV spacers which will change the sound)
