Getting a Cupra backbox fitted, cost? Where to get it done?

Hey guys,

I've received a Cupra backbox today(courtesy of Hartosh1), and am going to contact the insurance company tomorrow, to see how much it is going to add.....

Does anyone reckon it'll make a significant premium difference? (1.2L reference sport, 17, 0 ncb, currently paying near enough 2k.

If it's too expensive, I'll leave it until September when I have 1 year ncb, and will get it done.

Aside from that, is anywhere like a KwitFit good enough to get it sorted? I was told getting it welded would be say...£50? I've already got a step down joining sleeve due to different bore sizes, so that is sorted, but still don't know the specifics of the job

Cheers,
Christian.

Im sure any local and decent tyre and exhaust place would do it for less. Kwik fit are expensive and shit imho.

Who you insured with?

Ah okay. I have a couple of places around me, and have checked out stuff online and was advised just to check out a "motor factor" on yell.com.

One of the places near me is relatively small, so will have to check 'em out for price. I guess if it's too expensive this insurance year, I'll have a while to check out more locals ;P

I'm with Admiral at the moment. Cheapest I could find (bar QuinnDirect...but er.. them going into temporary administration and having a shocking track record didn't tempt me ;P ).

Having said that... I've heard Admiral are pretty lame as well.

Put your mother/father as a secondary driver, it will drop the insurance (Its what I do)
If you declare it on your insurance they might charge you an admin fee but they didn't charge me any extra for my entire system.

Hah yeah, already done that ;P

Dropped it a few hundred, but still dredding the exhaust. Would they class it as a "performance" modification? Or is a backbox purely aesthetic? :/

some are really picky, but a back box doesnt really do much performance wise, better to declare though to cover yourself though. If you did have a crash and didnt declare it, they might not pay out as you have changed it from factory spec

I reckon it's a performance mod in their eyes. A K&N filter rises my monthly pay, forchrissake. And the performance gains are negligible. It's all sound really - but Quinn still thought it was a performance mod. Best thing is to call up, and ask how much extra it would cost to insure a mod before you carry out the mod, just so you know what you're dealing with.

Oh well, beauty costs a lot I guess

Actually, scrap that! Just called again as I had second thoughts and a couple of suspicions..

Turns out the Indian woman forgot to mention that it was £140.49 only for the REMAINING time on my policy.... Don't know if it's just me, but I didn't fancy paying and extra £280 just for the exhaust on insurance for the year, not even including original price and fitting costs....

Looks like I'll just be sticking with my new Cupra alloys and splitter for £52 for the remaining 7 months....

Seems like I'll be fitting the exhaust and new rear valance in October then >.< FML.

Cost me something like £60 to declare alloys and coilovers on mine (Tesco insurance) but then it also put my excess up £200!!

Ouch..

How many years no claim?

I'm just hoping that it won't be so extreme when I get my no claims bonus in October...

I fitted them myself, such a difference! Well worth it, despite them being stupidly expensive

Haha. Were they easy to fit? Did it require bumper removal?

Yeah very easy, just took 10minutes to figure out HOW to get the old ones out, but there are just simply clips either side of the them, pull 'em out and the new ones slot straight it.

They come in an antracite/dark gray colour, so may be better spraying them first? I didn't bother as I thought it looked alright.

I'm not quite sure! Fitted them 3 months ago :/

I think I use a flathead screwdriver, with a thick cloth against the paintwork to stop paint damage, and partially prised them off. Maybe the clips are on the top.....can't quite remember.
