Eleccy Window

My drivers side electric window stopped working the other day, had the mech and motor out and the cable is all frayed and was getting jammed in the mechanism.
Been to the Seat dealer this morning, and u cant just buy the cable, you have to buy the whole unit, including motor......at £100 !!!
Rang round some breakers, none had any...
Can any body help or suggest something, cos I dont really want to fork out that much just cos the cable bust.

Cheers.

Cut cable back @ good part, solder in new section of cable, tape up joints, then put tape over entire length of new cable. Almost as good as new then.

dont solder but new

soldering in a 'new' section of cable is NOT an option for the simple reason that solder does not stick to steel cable and your length of cable must be exactly correct for the whole thing to work too short a cable then the window wont go up all the way possibly leading to burning out your motor too long a cable and it will go to far up and then more than likely the glass will be slack or smash as the motor doesnt know when to stop.im not 100 % sure if yuor regulator/motor unit is the old or new type if it is the new type then the window motor knows exactly how many revolutions there are up and down as they are fitted with a hall effect sensor(this counts the turns)
the only best thing to do is buy a new cable preferably with drive wheel attatched, but when you do this DON'T cut the cable ties that hold the wire to the drive wheel until it is fitted to the motor otherwise you will have a nightmare trying to get it all back together
as the wire is wrapped clockwise in a numer of rotations and anti clockwise in a number of rotations and this MUST be correct for it to work correctly.before you put the cover of the motor back on use white lithium grease or similar LIGHT grease this will seal the unit from water ingress and lubricate mechanism + grease the rollers at top and bottom.once all this is done your window will work fine.
so in a nutshell buy new cables/regulator(not motor) and follow the above and youll be fine

That's the last time I go on Cupra.net after a session. I thought of cable as in electric cable . That's why I mention tape, quite right it would be impossible to solder.
