Awesome Parts Thread - A message for the opinionated.

Not aimed at anyone personally, so don't get the hump..not that i'll care that much if you do get the hump.

A message to the opinionated.

Apologies to those who don't think rules were made to be broken or changed. Loop-holes are an indication that a rule needs changing, and circumstances can't always be predicted.

Awesome are using their section to advertise a colleagues parts. As a long-term customer of Awesome I know who they are, where they are and more than likely the people selling the parts too.

Forum individuals act as individuals, no-one knows who they are and if they scam someone the victims generally complain to me or m0rk when it goes tits up. The whole crux of the matter regarding for sale threads in general... which has already been done to death.

Awesome would we expect not want to be associated with the bad karma that would come from such a bad situation arising from a deal done via their section by a member of their own staff. While they have no obligation to offer a guarantee on any used or new parts not sold directly by the company, they have the right to use their sponsor section how they see fit... in this case helping a colleague.

Sourcing 'used' or even 'new' parts from a member of Awesome's staff would we expect come at a greatly reduced risk to the buyer and quantifies any risk to the forum and its owners. So I see no reason to forbid it in this case, however it would be upto Awesome ultimately if this is an avenue they want to go down. As like the for sale section problem we have as owners of the forum, it would appear your guilty by association these days.

If you want to see that as being one rule for them and one rule for the rest of you, then I'm not going to say otherwise its spot on correct. But it won't change the opinion that I have every confidence in Awesome's good name and its staff than individuals who we rarely know from adam.

Until 'WE' have free time to make consultation about and if changes to the forum can be made that make us more comfortable with an open parts sales section, then blanket ban remains. As for it being a loop-hole, its probably a given that any site sponsor has the same reservations as us about acting as middle men for people it doesn't know.

Our time is precious and at the moment our real life and work commitments outweigh your little forum problems

At the moment our opinion is make do or log-off because the constant whining just makes it easier for us not to listen.

If the overall opinion is that the forums existence is pointless without the means to scam people then sadly its days are numbered.

If that becomes the popular opinion then it will be shutdown within the next 12 months. It won't be sold or handed on.

Use the forum as it was intended, to share knowledge! In time if we get the opportunity, we might bring parts sales back, but it will be in our own good time.

Finally a thank you to the folks that take flak and help run the forum (when we can't) and all those folks that get on and happily use the forum as it was intended.

I wouldn't say the forum is pointless without the means to scam people at all. It's still very useful, and I've met many people locally from here, helped them out with diagnostics and saved them a fortune at dealers, etc.

However to see a sponsor flaunt the rules is highly annoying, especially when it's a sponsor who I have had a little issue with in the past and therefore I know that their status as sponsors on SCN doesn't guarantee a trouble-free experience. Sales were banned because of scams, non-payment, non-delivery, problems with parts not fitting and not being warrantied etc, and since this is essentially a private sale it's entirely possible that John could let people down in a similar way. You may well say "John is a good guy, I've met him" but this was also true of some normal members in the past as well. Don't forget that m0rk's explanation for not setting a minimum post limit for the parts sales section was that some of the scammers were long-standing members of SCN who had suddenly "turned" and started ripping people off. I wouldn't take your "character reference" of John to mean anything, really, just the same as you wouldn't take mine if I (as a "medium term" member, almost 5 years and 2000-odd mostly useful posts) recommended my mate Jonny who signed up 5 days and 2 posts ago...

I'm aware it's a hobby, and it takes your time for free etc, and I think everyone's been thankful for that. I'm sure you, m0rk, Martyn, Syphon, and the moderators have put in countless hours over the past 11 years and it's been a useful site to me in the past while I was still "new". But I can totally see why people feel that there's an "us and them" on the forums at the moment and that money talks around here...

The risk of a sale falling through with Awesome employee's is minimal.

Therefore the risk of getting dragged into any legal issues is minimal for us.
The risk of allowing 'you' to sell things as a person unknown to us means the risk is far greater to manage.

Money talks? Well the forum needs cash to stay online. As Z stated, not a penny makes it to anyone on the team here.

CPR was a very big Evo specialist running cars in time attack amongst other things and everyone thought there cars/parts whether it be buying off them or selling they twice ripped there customers off in a massive way. Most of whom were close friends. What makes awesome more trust worthy than the members on here??? After all it's the members that make the site what it is.

We don't say it's risk free, just reduced risk.

The 'risk' is also shared by us, as previously explained.

Clearly you've not read Z's post, nor the other threads you've commented on.

What makes Awesome more trustworthy than you? I'll gladly allow you to have as many adverts as you want. You'll just need to include your home address, work details & phone numbers. Probably inside leg too.

If you baulk at any of that information, then you're already less trustworthy than Awesome.

I gladly give all info on any item I sell. It's the best and only way to do it IMO. Anyone that doesn't follow those guidelines just ask to be ripped off IMO.

You're not prepared to make that information public domain? ie, in the advert?

Effectively that's what Awesome do. You have all their company records available at companies house, with Jim's home address (and the other directors), the company address & phone numbers are public information too.

Whatever you say, it cannot change our mind over the 'for sale' section.

So if we include a photo of a letter addressed to our houses and a valid phone number we can sell parts too? Or even give things away for free as I recently had a thread deleted for this without any explanation why.

Clutching at straws with that one, though I presume you meant to say alledged before that statement.

Not really the done thing to be throwing about accusations of criminal conduct about companies on public forums. Unless you have evidence of a court judicial outcome your currently libelling them.

I know nothing about the company you speak of, except a quick google seems to indicate they were established about 5 years ago.

Awesome in reflection have been successfully trading for more than 20 years.

I'd disagree that home addresses are public, yes they're on Companies House but how many people know about that (or how to query it), realistically? It's not really the same as having the directors addresses Google-indexed as ours would be if included in a thread.

I'd have no problem with putting my work address and phone number on though if required, which I do see as equivalent to what Awesome do.

The simple fact is money doesn't talk, we have had offers to sell the site..we refused. Long term trust, loyalty and friendship does talk with us.

We turn down sponsors because we don't want it flooded with competing sponsors. There are plenty of other forums and websites out there that take everything they can get. We could easily do the same, but its of no interest to us to make this our cash cow.

I have a career, that I love and this is a hobby nothing more.

If it's long term trust your after then how can the members especially the long term ones show you this??? As mork has said in the previous post the ones that are willing to share all details are surely the ones to trust over the ones that have the problems with it??? No point in saying that trust is your number one priority if your not willing to let the members show you this.

And yes we all know this is just both your hobby as you both say quite a lot when ever there's an issue.

Not my scene you see, so passes me by. But if that's the case I stand corrected, that is obviously a sad state of affairs.

It's a very sad story and I've no reason to make light of it, but reading between the lines, how is this in anyway Awesome with their 20+ year limited company trading history and seemingly content customer base.

Any company will tell you, there is no such thing as 100% customer satisfaction, someone will always have a beef about something. But based on the trading history alone, and its gradual and steady growth as a company over its 20+ years you have to consider they are doing something right.

I've been a customer of Awesome for over half of that time and I have never had a reason to believe they were anything but a great company to deal with, and I pay for my toys like everybody else.

You don't build a business over that much time to turn around and decide to rip customers off overnight, this obviously appears to have been some front, whether for money laundering or simply business people right out of their depth. Despicable conduct.

But I can't help thinking your using a hugely exaggerated argument just to validate your opinion.

But as were all obviously just wasting our time anyway throwing opinions at each other.. I'll just go back to getting on with what I was doing this evening.

It is a hobby, what more do you want us to say.

Ok it's a pastime maybe, something to do at the weekend.

Apologies that our little forum doesn't meet your exacting standards.
