Engine mounts

Hi All

May seem like a daft question but how many engine mounts are there with a 2L 16V engine - one at front just behind rad, one at rear of gearbox near corner of engine bay, any others ?

Cheers

Rob

Are you thinking of changing them Rob?

I'll be looking for the answer to this one too, because my engine could rock for Britain! It makes my whole car shake when I'm stationary.

front sounds easy to do (undo jack up remove replace lower tighten, breif desrciption)but looking at the other(s)it looks very involved,i'll get me torch and have a look for the other one when mrs gets back from tesco's

Cheers

Rob

VW Motorsport?

Let us know how you get on with the throttle bodies. Are you changing anything else?

Neil.

My front mount (I did use Vibratechnics once... it broke and cost loads!) is now from Volksport. Pukka! £65 and reliable.

Rear engine mount is modified by me... PU potted 2 of the 4 compliance holes.. Yours might be a top hat type... though being the newer car.

G'box one is stock, but gets replaced due to failures annually.

regards
Bill

Neil.
Nothing else for now - straight swap std manifold (with K+N panel filter and heavily drilled airbox) for throttle bodies. Cam timing same but gone for mapping with lower octane petrol - std 95RON unleaded this time (98RON super plus last time). Last time was 180bhp - same rollers and operator this time so its a fair comparison to see what throttle bodies add.

Next on list is a quaife diff - £1070 quote from Stealth all in. As I am running 2.5 degree nagative camber on front, are shagging up inside edge of front drivers side wheel on RH bends (most of UK track bends) when the wheel spins up on corner exit - diff will stop this and drive through outside wheel with most grip - less understeer and less spinning.

Cheers

I've been looking at getting a Quaife diff. £525 plus £47 for a fitting kit. What's the fitting kit?

Is it really £500 for fitting?

I think the fitting kit is bolts, gaskets and suchlike as the std crownwheel is riveted to the diff carrier and with this diff it needs bolting to it - must be other bits and pieces as well as bolts and gaskets though.

Will need an oil fill - £20 - but cannot think of anything else - so yes, £500 for fitting.

I am calling other places = perhaps we can get a discount for 2 ??????

Another option for a box build could be Autotechnic in Southampton. They built mine with altered FD ratio and quiafe.

Maybe, but we'd probably be limited to somewhere not too far for either of us, with us living so far apart (I live about 35 south of Bristol).

I've thought about changing the FD, but it's my every day driver so
1. It would cost me more in petrol
2. I'd never get to work on time when I get up late (M5 most of the way).

The best option for me would be a six speed kit. TSR quote about 1500 excluding fitting, Stealth Racing quoted me 1500 including fitting.

I think the bloke at Force One Supercharging would do me a good deal on fitting a diff, but he's really busy, so I'd have to wait a while. I'll pop in on Saturday and see what he says, for just me, or for 2 of us (RobT).

Hi Neil

Get both prices - you on own and both of us. I was talking to the guy who maps my car last night who says he has had a couple of 16V golfs in with LSD's fitted - he seemed to think they were factory standard (or perhaps an option). He's looking into it for me - this could be a cheaper way to go if we could get hold of second hand ones. What about y'man Grant ???

Got first set of power results back last night from throttle conversion and have 210 (fly) 180 (wheels). Was 180 fly. Mapping not finished yet however as the guy's lamba reader broke - going in next Thurs to finish the job. He has mapped top and bottom sites but the middle is a bit ropey still. Tickover with my 276 cams was not far off a std car - smooth at 900-1000rpm.

Cheers
