Samco TIP Vs metal type

Pretty much every tuned 1.8T I see uses the Samco intake pipe between the MAF and turbo, hardly anyone seems to use the metal ABD or Neuspeed type. Why is this? Is it because the rubber top half can collapse under high boost (and looks kak too) and that the Samco is one smooth pipe? Also, the metal type bolts onto the turbo but the Samco is just a push fit and jubilee clip.

I currently use the Neuspeed TIP but I've bought a Samco one to try out, mainly for the above reasons (one smooth pipe, reinforced so won't collapse, looks better)

Any thoughts, pros and cons?

So do the metal ones, in fact some say because the Samco is thick 4/5-ply silicon, it's quieter that the metal/rubber combo. I'll know for sure once my Samco is on! In fact, I'll do vid clips before and after so we can all hear it.

The Samco one is beter suited to the KO4 IMHO, as it has smoother bends and you don't need to bolt it directly to the turbo like you did on the KO3 - hence why the Samco one isn't so popular with the KO3 owners.

The Samco one is possibly smoother internally at the various pipe connections, but apart from that not a lot of difference, and i certainly haven't had any feeling of pipe getting deformed - it is still prety solid when warm.

P.S. I'll stand corrected if i'm wrong of the above

I was under the impression that the car had 2 Tips? One that bolts directly to the turbo which is metal hence the neuspeed and abd metal ones. And then the samco silicone TIP which connects to the metal TIP? So there is 2 pipes one metal intermediate one and one samco one?

The only way you can have 2 TIP's is to have 2 turbo's...

...on the LCR, the Samco jobbie is a straight swap for the original corrugated rubber thing with a split in it... or was that just mine??

Does the samco not connect to another metal pipe which then connects to the turbo?

Nope - Samco straight onto the turbo.

On the Cupra, you have a metal intake bolted onto the turbo, then a rubber top half going up to the airflow meter. You can get high flow replacement metal intakes but they still use the OE rubber top half. The Samco TIP replaces the lot just like the LCR, from the turbo to the airflow meter in one smooth larger bore hose.

I'm about to replace my Neuspeed TIP/rubber with the one-piece Samco.

Remember though, that the R doesn't have the metal pipe

If you get a Samco TIP, it just fits straight on to the turbo on the R.

I would take some pics to show you, but as you can barely get your hand to that part of the engine at the best of times...

Given the Samco hose kit group buy already done you might want to strike while the iron's hot so to speak
