My LCR. 330mm brakes, wheels,KW Clubsports, Quaife ATB, stage 2 map booked.

Right then I thought it was about time I started a build thread.
I drive a 2003 210 LCR which has been in the family for six years now. In 2006 my brother put a deposit down on a CTR but after talking to him about it we went out to look at other cars. The first garage we went to was Seat. On the way my brother sais he liked the yellow leons with black wheels. Guess what the first car was we saw!
So last June 2011 me and my brother again got talking. He wanted to sell his LCR and buy a cheaper car to run. I wanted to sell my MKII Golf GTI project and buy a larger, safer, fun practical car. So a deal was struck, cars where swaped and cash my brothers way.
Unfortunatly my lap top is currently broken so it's going to be a bit light on photos.

This is the GTI I sold and you can just see the Mondeo ST TDCI family car we had at the time.

This is my LCR

IT had a few mods when I bought it but noting major.
Nuespeed P-Flow indution kit and heat sheald.
Forge 007p DV.
Smoked rear lights.

It was in need of an MOT which was done straight away and passed. Four new tires so Goodyear eagle F1 Asye 2 where ordered from E tyers (If you have'nt tryed them give them a go great service ). 60 k service was also due along with water pump and cam belt. The service was carried out at Jabbasport. Who also strongly recomended the fule lines where replaced that run next to the charge pipe.
Next up was fixing the leaking door seals. As I promised my wife when buying the car that Id keep it standard and not spend a small furtune modifying it thats the way it stayed.

First impressions of the car where good. It just did'nt drive how I thought it should though. The power delivery was not very smooth which peaks and trough in the boost curve. Then the power dropped off at the top end.
Also I hate the front seats I just can't get comfortable in them. The kids seats are much more comfortable

At the service they they also recommended new discs and pads fornt and back, brake fluid change and found a broken spring near side rear .
So with all this needing to be done I bought a Badger 5 V1 TIP from Bill . I'd been reading on the forums about how good they where so thought I'd give it a go.

What can I say that has not been said already about the B% TIP. Everything you read about the qulity, and improvemnts in performance is true. I especaily found at the top end the car pulls alot stronger now. I know that there are others on the market since I bought mine but I'd still buy a B5 TIP over the others. In fact I'm thinking of buy a V2.2.
Oh and another job the wheels need a refurb OH and my air filter has not been used as a punch bag.

So at this point with the improvments with the B5 TIP. I changed my mind on the no mods approach and decided to replace any parts that need replacing with better ones (just don't tell the wife) .
My plan now was to replace the old suspension. Sort the brakes out and try and ignore the patchy paint work.
Then one night on the way home from work at 5pm on the university bridge in Lincoln. I was sat at a red light which changed to green and it wouldn't go into gear.
Great. Hazzards on I sat for over an hour while the kids where bundled into the back of the Mondeo and Emma came with the tow rope. IT's amazing sat in a Yellow car with the hazzards on how many people nearly drove into the back of me.
Anyway. I rang Jabba and we disscussed what the likely cause was. Over the phone it was diagnosed as the selection fork between 1st and 2nd gears. So it was gear box out time for a part that cost a few pounds. On hearing this my first thought was LSD...
Jabba picked my car up form my house and trailered it back to there work shop as we wern't 100% sure what the problem with the gear box was. It did turn out to be the selection fork that had dropped off and needed riveting back on. The clutch and fly wheel also needed replacing. Along with a new slave cylinder, the bog bone bush was replaced with a superpro polly bush. Oh and they fitted a Quaife ATB diff.
Grand total nearly 2200 pounds (sorry the key on the works computer for the pound sign is not working). Oh and I also need to re paint the brake callipars and put on some new Brembo stickers. :o

It tuck me a while to get used to the diff. Mainly I didn't realise how much more grip I had. It's very subtle in operation and I had to get used to small steering inputs at speed. Under steer is practically none existent now in comparison. In short everyone should have one.
I found a few small issues on the way home from Jabba. First of all the cup holder broke as I tried to put a can in it :? . Then I realised the fog lights where on and I couldn't turn them off :? . The next day the engine light came on and displayed this code

Which I believe is efficancy of the first cat?

Next up I contacted Mike and he sorted out a batch of the Hugh's engineering rear strut braces

Looks good but I'm not sure if it made any difference?
With Christmas approaching and the money saved up for breaks and suspension spent. All plans where put on hold until the new year.

Now the Mondeo.... We bought it at 10 months old and it never caused any problems. That was until it pop out a drive shaft on the way home from Centreparcs. Then a couple of weeks later the other one failed. The breaks needed replacing, clutch began to slip etc. So that was the suspension and break money spent again!
The Mondeo had to go so we replaced it with this

It's a checky little mod in it's self. Keeps me in the good books and it cost bugger all to run. £20.31 a month insurance!!!
Back to a full VAG family again

So then I finally got around to fitting my boost gauge

Here's a fitting guild
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=352182
It's not perfect but it's functional. When I get time I'll finish it off!
Then my Dad fitted my forge side to side and back to front short shifters

Also a Nuespeed 28 mm rear ARB, I also have a 25mm front to fit

The rear ARB in combination with the diff make it much pointer than it was before. Yes I know I still need breaks, suspension and to sort out the cat but Awsome GTI gave my a very good offer on buying the two ARBs together

I've recently managed to find a MKIV Golf arm rest for good money.

Also I've bought a TT front strut brace which is waiting to be fit.

So I think that's everything pretty much up to date. So MOT time is coming around again.
Breaks wise this is what I'd like to go for
http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/~god...?id_product=82
With DS2500 pads. I'm just trying to justify the extra out lay over these!?!?
http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/~god...?id_product=81
Are the 330mm two piece discs worth it?

Loving the thread mate. Nice to see a build taking place. You've done all the things I'd have done too, god I loved my mk1!

2 piece brakes are only really worth it if you have the intention of tracking it
Add a decent fluid too otherwise you'll boil it easily

Yeh I guess your right. I may track it but not for certain. As well as the breaking performance I like the sound of reducing the unsprung weight though. Having said that I could buy a Relentless DP and sports cat with the money difference.

Thanks, progress has been much slow than I'd of hoped for. At least it's given me chance to research future mods!

After having a good read around and a chat to a chap about having my car re mapped. I've decided for peace of mind I'm going to fit rods before I do to many engine mods. I also think after the breaks I'll finally get the suspension sorted out to make best use of the diff and any future power increase.
Problem is can't decide what to go for? Money no object it'd be KW V3's but with so many other things to spend my money on like moving house at some point. I just can't justify the out lay.
So what I've been thinking is either Weitec Hicon GT Coilover or Bilstein 20mm/15mm B12 Pro Lowering Springs & Shocks Suspension Kit. I love the idea of a track day but I just don't know if I'll ever do one. With the car being used for family as much as fun I can't decided between compliance and out right handling? I have polly top mounts on the way from a group buy. Also I may buy some 10mm front and 15mm rear spacers.

Great write up mate. Love those golfs, had 6 mk2 golfs of varying models over the years, was that one 16v? I'm sure you have done your research, but I can vouch for the weitec's. They're going to be stiffer but I think they're ok. My LCR is a daily family car (for now). Funny thing I find is that when I drive it feels like I can feel every thing the road has to offer, but as a passenger it actually feels quite dampened.
