BTCC- 25kg taken off ETCC cars (Toledo's)

from BTCC Media...

Green Flag MSA British Touring Car officials have granted cars running to European Touring Car regulations a 25-kilogram reduction in weight from the next three championship rounds at Mondello Park on 12-13 June.

The announcement will affect SEAT Sport UK’s Toledo model and privateer teams Edenbridge Racing’s BMW 320i, Team Sureterm’s Alfa Romeo 156 GTA and Team Quest/Varta’s Honda Civic.

BTCC Series Director Alan Gow said that the decision was taken after detailed analysis of performance of both ETCC and BTCC-spec cars running in Britain.

Gow commented: “In the best interests of the BTCC, the two types of cars should boast equal performance. That is essential in generating more of the exceptionally close racing we have witnessed so far this season.

“In the last three ETCC meetings, SEAT’s Toledo has proved it is now on a par with the best out there from established leaders Alfa Romeo and BMW.

“It should therefore be equal in performance to the best of the BTCC-spec cars, such as the Vauxhall Astras and Honda Civics. I believe a 25kg weight reduction will achieve this equality.”

Good news, so the decision they made to add the 25kg before Silverstone was obviously not welcome by the ETCC spec teams. The SEAT's still really provided some good opposition to the likes of VX Racing even with the extra weight, but it was obvious that with success ballast added on top of the extra 25kg was affecting the ETCC spec cars more than the BTCC cars. This change should make for some even closer racing

Good luck Huff and Plato! With the car improving after every meet and both guys driving so well it is a joy to watch. Well done to SEAT Sport UK for doing such an excellent job so far, they have also proved they can work wonders with Duck Tape

Looking forward to the next race.

Im confused, is this the 25kg being taken back off after they put 25kg for Silverstone (then running only 25 kg lighter than the BTC spec cars)

So there now 50kgs lighter as per start of the season?

now same weight as per the start of the season. Tough decision for Gow really, early on being devils advocate the Toledo's were on the pace of the Astra, whereas in Europe it was still languishing in the lower 10.

since then, sods law from Gow's perspective, the ETCC Toledos started to show some decent pace, so the decision has now been reverserded.

The whole plan is that if say the works Alfa or Priaulx's BMW came into the BTCC, they wouldn't be 5-10-15 seconds ahead of the pack.

Personally, I think this is good for motorsport (which is more important) and also for SEAT

25kg on, 25kg off, the Toledos are the Oprah Winfreys of the BTCC. Except they could have acted better in The Colour Purple.
