Well after a short hiatas Iv found my self back in a Leon. A Cupra R , this time round:D and here she is
21000 miles 61'reg

Bought from a Scn member ( tumtumtim )who acquired the car from an insurance company. The car was subject to some light off side front damage and written off category D due to un-economical repair. Previous owner sourced all new parts from sere seat and had a local coach builder/body shop carry out the repairs ..........well after convincing the wife that a cat d car isn't as sinister as it sounds and having just sold my R36CC I flew the N.Ireland to buy the car :D

The Journey home put to bed any doubt I had about buying a cat d car, the stranraer to Newcastle route isn't a bad one these days ,lots of new Tarmac and plenty lorries in tandem making over taking interesting @2am!.

Anyway a month in and Iv managed to get it detailed a little when the weather has let up,get a coat of soft99 fusso dark light wax on

Little bit of beading

I replaced all 4 tyres for Michelin pilot super sports 225/40/18 88y £456 fitted

And a pipercross panel filter just to replace the oem paper one which was replaced at its last service at sere seat.

Also got my vanity plate transferred on so bought some pressed plates from eBay (£20) and some plain plate holder surrounds (£6) plus some fancy LED plate lights£20

Don't think I'm gonna go down the remap route( but never say never) maybe a big brake conversion, Iv only had the car a month so Iv yet really find any room for improvement although Iv got a trackday booked for the end of the month  which I'm looking forward too.
I can see a TRC front splitter being fitted in the near future also[B)]

Just a bit of a back story, rewind to 2012 I'd just got married decided we needed more of a grown up car and sold my C2 VTS ( 92k miles in 7yr) and my track slag GTIR

I have a thread on the GTIROC but you need membership to acces it
Having sold those 2 we bought a Mk2 Tdi FR
Ran that for just over a year until I decided derv wasn't for me.originally set out looking to replace it with a mk2 Cupra but prices seemed strong and out of my price range, I opted for a fn2 CTR with the LSD which handled really well but lacked in the power department not to mention a pig to live with day to day
Replaced that after 3 month a LCI BMW 130i
Great little car sadly missed, we needed a bigger boot and more doors so that went after 8 month and I took a punt on a Passat cc 3.6v6 DSG 300bhp,great sleeper, sounded awesome just cornered like a large boat

I still think this is a stunning motor, but none the less after 10 months ownership we find ourselves back in a Leon, and basically traded up into the Cupra R which isn't bad going from £8.5k FR we started with

Thanks for reading, heres hoping the weather is good @ croft and we get some good videos and pictures to post

The Cat D status put it n my price range to fair usually 20% less . It was at the very top of my budget plus flights n ferry home . But worth the travel n hassle. Bought from N.I and they don't m.o.t new vehicles from new until the 4th year, I manageged to insure and tax it there and book an m.o.t back home lol.dont know how that would of went down with the plod if they'd pulled me over :banned:

She's got plenty o poke for me for now

Croft track day today!

My first outing in the R and around croft so I signed up for the novice group. A nice dry sunny day and despite getting stuck behind traffic for a few laps and over cooking a few corners I managed some decent clean laps, my fastest lap was just under 1:47, I'm sure I could of shaved another second or 2 off but there was an accident on track before my last planned session so decided to call it a day
They took about an hour to recover the rx8 and sort the Armco/tyre barrier out

I might try relay the videos in HD quality ain't the best on my Iphone6 ,

After thinking Id broken the lower engine mount at croft,it turned out to be a poorly osf drive shaft. Hey ho happy days a few phone calls and a skeg on the net I found one local and had it fitted today no more knocking .

Part number 1KO407272JB

Love the Cupra R interior!

I've just bought a cat d fr pd170. It's still damaged so in the process of having it repaired but glad your happy with your cat d! It seems to have a stigma when you tell people who know little about cars!

yeah Cat d is only uneconomical repair or stolen/recovered when your insurance has paid out already.but like you say some people are scared off by this .....not me!

Looks nice that! New tailgate n bumper anything else? Doesn't look too expensive

I saved £4k buying this car and I'm over the moon with my purchase :D
