HELP! abs light is on

need some advice please ,had to brake hard today as i met a lorry on a bend, the abs light came on and hasn't gone off.
i took the car for a few runs up and down the by-pass and when i broke HARD i could lock up the back wheels the fronts are fine and can feel the abs working on them ,i presume that there is two separate systems,or circuits to them, any way is there anything i can do myself to sort it or is it a trip to seat and a plug in the 1551?
can the system reset itself or does it have to be a main dealer(was thinking of dissconnecting battery and seeing if that'll help, probably not)any info or help at all please. as i'd like to buy new wheels this week end not give it to seat.thanks as usual AND NO WISE CRACKS BRENDY

Sounds like.

The time my mate broke so bloody hard he managed to keep both the ABS light and both his rear brake lights on cos he forced the brake pedal into somewhere it shouldn't have gone...try fiddling with the pedal itself (.i.e waggle it about, see if it's gone to far - there is a microswitch down there) Also check your rear brakes lights are not permanently on...although this is something i'm sure you would have noticed!!...other than that it might be an ABS wheel sensor (only one has to go for the system to display an error).

If you could...

Get to Amythyst on a not so busy time, I'm sure they would at least chuck the diagnostic kit on for 5 mins. That at least would say if it was a wheel sensor.

it should register what has happened , and a reset and test will double check

may JUST be a sensor range outta line, BUT needs checking

ABS/AIRBAG circuits are VERY sensitive and scream "FAULT" JUST to be double safe
