Gear lever surround/Gear knob

Ok, i've just bought a new gear knob, now i just have to fit it.
I did a search and came up with these instructions:

"lift up the gaiter skirt to get access to the copper ring which hold on the
standard knob. using a screwdriver, prise the copper ring off and
pull away your standard gear knob and gaiter. remove the plastic ring holding the gaiter and knob together.

Take the new knob and insert screwdriver into the gaiter retaining ring. It should just pop off. the new knob then needs to be attached to the
standard gaiter. Attach it in the same way it was attatched to the VW one.

Pop on the new knob and crimp the copper ring to hold it in place. Refit the gaiter.

Job done in less than 5 mins"

In order to lift up the gaitor I need to remove the surround, so how do I do that or am i just being thick?

Thanks in advance

easy job mate even thought i know it seems daunting. my guess is u've bought a momo nob or sumthin similar so heres how to go about it:

1. run your finger over the top edge where the leather gaiter meets the plastic surround and u sould feel two bumps. pull them up as they are clips.

2. the whole gaiter plus surrounds on top and bottom will lift up. pull the gaiter upwards till u see the bottom of the original knob.

3. prise off the copper ring (******* of a job) and twist and pull off the knob.

4. Fittin A New Knob- most aftermarket knobs come with instructions so use them.
most probably will have to put on a rubber 'hat' on the top of the gear stick
shaft.

5. place knob over rubber top bit and screw in grub screws.

6. replace whole gaiter + surrounds and bob's ur auntie!

hope it helps

Top banana!
Great instructions mate, even though it's dark outside it didn't take more than a few minutes.

Did you manage to get the black plastic retaining clip back on? That should hold the gaitor in place at the base of the knob.
