ABF engine and Kjet fuelling..

Well, i am going to be picking up my beautiful mk2 golf 16v this evening. In the past couple of weeks i have been over to clubgti.co.uk which is a VW forum.

I was basically looking at ways of extracting more power out of the 1.8 16v engine which is in the golf, reading through and talking to a couple of people it seems a few opt to do an engine transplant by getting the ABF out of a few vehicles and using the K Jet fuelling system on the 1.8 16v Golf.

Apparently this makes for some nice power increases in the region of 170 bhp - 180 bhp with some nice drivability.

Has anyone thought about doing this on their Ibizas or has anyone done it already ?

I am thinking about sourcing an ABF for my golf now with these sort of increases as bolting the ABF into the golf is relatively simple between two people.

Brett

It doesn't have to be an ABF, most other 2L 16v blocks will do eh 9a. Plonk on the KR head and set up at Stealth and it all sounds so simple.

You should keep the ABF cams, specs are on CGTI and they are marginally 'better'

Time for a stupid question........ What is K Jet fuelling? I never heard about it till now and I was talking to my mate last night with Mk2 Golf GTi and he had no idea

Is it a straight fit to the ABF and how does it manage to produce more power?

Cheers Guys

I'd like to know as well please? Surely any change to the fueling would require an ECU re map?

K-Jet injection is what VW put in the original mk1 GTi. It is basically a mechanical fuel injection system so you can’t remap it because it has no ECU. It uses a valve that opens as more air pass through it, that then in turns mechanically increases the amount of fuel going to the injectors. See diagram below.

There's a reason why manufacturers moved to mapped systems ...
