New Leon 1.9 TDI

anyone driven the 1.9 TDI yet?

never had a TDI before and interested to know whether the 1.9 feels underpowered or if it's sufficient for every day use - thinking about buying a 1.9 stylance for the Mrs as our everyday run about.

is this a new engine / the same as the new generation golf - or have VW palmed SEAT off with an old engine?

also any advice on when is the best time in the calendar year to buy? I'm likely to be looking from November onwards, and wonder when I'm most likely to be able to get a discount (if that's possible on a brand new model!)?

thanks

as far as i know its the 1.9 PD from the existing model. the only new tdi they are using is the new 2.0l one, 140bhp.

I've been out in the 1.9TDI Stylance, its a great engine and you really only notice the clatter when it's not on the move. Loads of mid-range torque and a really slick gearchange too.

I've ordered a 1.6 Stylance as I don't do the mileage to justify a diesel. As for deals, I don't think there will be any, anytime soon. The dealers seem to be selling enough just on interest alone.

I got Metallic paint, Rear Parking sensors , mats, flaps and a full tank of fuel thrown in...I suppose it's better that nothing!

the 1.6 seems quite lively and the 1.9 tdi is still as good as it has always been. if you feel it needs more kick get it revo'd! (when they've done the program) remember the 1.9 tdi in the new leon is still 105bhp which is still quite high compared with other non VAG companies.

I don't think the 1.9tdi is the same 1.9tdi that is in the mk1 Leon. The new one is a PD engine with 105bhp the old one was non-PD and 110bhp.

Same engine as in the Beezer 100bhp TDI and also used in the MK5 Golf and just about every other model VAG range that it fits into, probably with the exception of Lambos (!).

They may have made it Euro 4 Compliant for the new generation Leon now though as in other VW models that use it.

Plenty of re-mapping companies can get it to 150bhp or thereabouts so could be a very viable engine option.

PD produces less BHP than non-PD

Depends on what ECU map it has plus other detail differences, turbo, IC etc.
Obviously they detune the cheapest model so they can sell more upmarket ones that have more profit built in.

It may have 10bhp (or even 5bhp depending on application) less on paper but the torque figures are the same if not better for the PD engine and it also feels a bit more punchy to drive as standard.

Ahh..see! I suppose it is like the different varations of BHP with the 1.8T engine

Hi LeakyTurnip,

Just a quick question, how much did u pay for ur car all in?

Im looking at buying the 1.9 stylance with parking sensors, m paint, leather - just looking to see if the dealer would do me a deal on the extras. At the moment if said he can not comment till he works out the value of my current car that i am part exing.

Dealer wouldn't budge on the list price £12995, as for the extras they were thrown in as part of the deal. I suppose I didn't come off too bad in the end!

The leather interior would be nice, but just a little pricey...

Just out of interest what colour are you looking at? I'm going for Zenith Grey, the only problem is that apparently no other SEAT has that colour at the moment so I'm not too sure what it'll look like!

Good Luck with the car...

If I had any tips i would! I did string the deal out a little so maybe that helped!

Not 100% on the delivery yet . Last check the dealer said about 10-14 days so your guess is a good as mine!

The one I test drove was metallic black and looked great, but I'd just imagine seeing every little scrape and scratch on it. Going by the little paint sample the Grey is just that bit lighter so hopefuly I might get round that problem!

@LeakyTurnip

Perry's in Aylesbury have a Zenith Grey model. Its quite a dark shade of grey (somewhere in between the Platinum and the Black Magic) and was my initial choice from the brochure, however I've now switched to Lluvia Blue as my pick.

I bet there's gonna be mainly black and silver models on the road so I want different!

Saw the zenith colour at my local stealers - very nice indeed. Drove the TDi sport as well - good drive, slick gearchange, steering weights up nicely on the move, lightens when you park. Wheel is nice to hold. Waiting patiently for an FR or better - its tough though.
