Smokin
This has happened to me a couple of this recently just wondered if anyone else got this.
Sitting at some traffic lights this morning and had got stuck in the wrong lane so I knew I had to make a quick get away when the lights changed. When they changed I was off but noticed that the person next to me was making every effort to keep up, so I floored it to ensure that I made the gap. When I looked in my rear view mirror there was this immense cloud of smoke behind me! Not the black smoke that I associate with diesel but a sort of grey cloud (This is the third diesel I have owned by the way). The other time I noticed it happening was a while ago when I went around a corner in third gear (bit high really) and rather than change down I just put my foot right down and again big cloud of smoke. I mentioned this to the dealer when I was at the service centre and he said that they do that if they haven't been reved hard for a while, and I have to admit that in both cases the car had not been given any serious welly for a while So normal or not what do you think?

Normal I'd say..look for any signs such as poor fuel consumption or oil levels going down just in case..but mine smokes nicely every morning...

Sounds like a healthy altea to me. You should give it a bit of a roasting every now and then just to get rid of all the crap in the exhaust. Also gives you a james bond smoke screen moment LOL

I've been driving diesels for 12 years, said that once already today
. Smoking when hitting the floor is common if the engine is hot and you been crawling, so you just pushing out unburnt fuel and carbon that's been sitting in the exhaust pipe. That's why when it's MOT time you make a very fast trip down a motorway to clear the pipe out and engine [?] so when they over rev it, it's OK dokey. In the days of sulphar with diesel, rather than low sulphar it was black, it went grey with the low sulphar stuff . I too have noticed that the TDI can shook this stuff out, it means that it's running in nicely and getting flexible . To avoid this you don't floor the pedal, you balance fuel to what the engine can burn, but any hard fast get away is going to throw out un burnt fuel particles which you'll see, mostly at night in the persons lights who's tailing you. I always think, serves them rights.

Mine smokes too sometimes, particularly if I clog it after driving gently for a while.
