can ayone tell me if the cam belt for a seat leon cupra should normally be changed after the 70k mile or after 5 years. My local garage following a check on my seat said it needed changing as its 5 years old. its got about 57k on the clock. The cost of changing it including the fitting is £245.00 is this reasonable or are they robbing me blind.

I got mine changed when I bought the car at about 40k (once bitten and all that) they said to me at the time that it only got changed at 120k, which seemed a bit high to me, though it gets checked every 10k from 60k.

If I remember rightly, mine cost £180 all in.

also dependant on how you drive, the mileage needs to be adjusted.

Just had my cambelt changed as the water pump went, so while it's off might be worth getting a new water pump with metal blades also as the plastic ones are a common problem.

Price for mine (water pump and cambelt) was £338 + VAT, so think yourself lucky!

I got told today by Seat in Derby that the cam belt does not need changing on a Leon untill 100k and that was for all models. Mines done 60k so was thinking it may need changing.

100k sounds like a lot of miles on one belt

Different rules for different engines. For all 20 valve turbo engines, Seat now recommend checking at 80k and replacing at 100k. Although checking at 80k is pointless as you can't check the internal structure of the belt by looking at it and new looking belt could still snap a week later.

Personally i'd get yours changed at 60k for peice of mind.

Has anyone here had any experience of snapping cambelts on Seats??

I've only come across one but even that wasn't due to a weak belt as a bolt had wedged itself between the belt and crankshaft gear.

Not SEAT but on an Audi A4 20v (non turbo) I used to have, the cambelt tensioner snapped at around 60k. Bent every valve

Cost me £800 for the head rebuilding
