Mk4 Rear Brakes

My dad's Cupra Tdi has a grating sound coming from the rear brakes, has anyone come across this on their car? The car has only done 9000 miles and there is plenty of meat left on the pad's. Any idea's?

Grating whilst braking? Or when off brakes?

Grating whilst braking, it almost sound's like pads are worn out. But like i said there is plenty of material left. The N/S Rear is the worst, i had a look at the disc and it does appear to be scored a bit.

Mine does it, its a bit strange as theres plenty meat left on the pads and the disks arent damaged at all.

pop the pads out n see if something could be lodged inside , or possibly a good hit with a power hose from the rear of the car might do it

ive had the pads out and cleaned everything up and its still the same. the brakes dont seem to be affected performance wise, they just sound a bit rumbly/grindy.

A good blast with the jetwash seemed to quieten them down for a day or so, but it still persist's. Might take it to Seat and let them have a look.

Is there much rust round the edges of the rear discs ?

Mine went realllly rusty, if it's thick enough it could well start rubbing on the pad edges...just a guess.
If there is a thick rust crust you could try chipping it all off with a screwdriver/hammer and see if the noise goes away.
