Any experience of High Mileage TDI's ?

Hi All,

Having just bought a 2002 toledo 1.9 TDI with nearly 80k on clock, I was wondering what you guys thought about high mileage SEATS, especially TDI's ?

I hear that VW group cars are good for a few miles, so have any of your got any experience of higher mileage cars ?

I have heard of them doing upwards of 150k..

I thought my car was a nice example with all the bits (SE spec) so I didn't worry to much about the mileage.

High mileage Diesels, anything to worry about ?

Ta.

Hi Mate
No they are not.
I worked in a Skoda dealer and have seen a SDi Octavia with 220k on the clock.
The engines as long as they are looked after will go on.
The things to keep an eye on should be turbo`s and suspension on that mileage.
Check and make sure the cam belt has been done.
Enjoy the car
Sarah

80k isnt high miles at all!

thats only just run in Andy, the VAG TDI engine will be giving its best at 80k. Enjoy youve got at least double if not triple the milege left in it.

Just dug out this old thread I started when I bought my Toledo back in March 2006..

Well, during last week it clocked over the 150k mark..

I am servicing it myself, currently changing the oil and filter every 8k.

The car is great, never missed a beat, gives 60 mpg on my daily commute up the motorway..

Best motor I have ever had !!

Lets just hope it is good for the next milestone, 200k would be good.

TDI's rule...

Hi Pat, must get back to one of your meetings sometime, as now working back in the UK after a spell of weekly commuting to Stockholm for best part of a year..
My mileage would of crept up even higher had I not been parking up at Brum airport all week.

So, where are your meets nowadays, I see you no longer use the Caldecote ?

Yep, I am still using the Pella, top bit of kit, saves loads of hassle..

Been reading your thread on your car, seems you still doing lots to it, been busy haven't you.

Cheers lads..

Local to me are a very successful Airport transit/luggage/taxi company with a large fleet of Skoda Octavias. They only buy these cars, same tdi engine, one of which has done 800,000 miles! They swear by them, and on other matters of little importance!

Generally get the small things done and the bigger things look after themselves.

In particular oil changes, and good ones. I always change after 5000 miles, which could be overkill, but you know with new oil that the engine is as well protected as possible, so little engine wear, and will run smoothly, which is good for reliability as well as economic running.

Oh yes and pay real importance to the timing belt, if you arent sure when it was done get it done. And when it should be changed after that.
