Altitude Sensor

Hey guys, having major problems with my 1.8 20v leon, getting major lose of power/hesitation moving off (particularly bad at 2000rpm's). Took it to my local garage this morning and they advised me that there is a problem with an altitude sensor?? They say they have never heard of this so i called the dealer and they have never heard of this either!! As you can imagine that didnt fill me with the greatest of confidence so i need some help if anyone knows anything? looking through the site there is a lot of mention about the MAF sensor. dont suppose its that. thanks in advance guys.

Don't quote me on this, but I heard from my dealer that the altitude sensor is integrated in MAF. Is necessary because on higher altitude the air contains less oxygen in the same quantity of air. So you need another MAF to give it a try. Or run with it disconnected and see if you still got problems.

There is an altitude sensor (i.e. an ambient air pressure sensor) integrated into some ECU's. However, the only use I know of for it is in turbo engines, where it is used to prevent the turbo trying to overspeed in the thinner air found higher up. It limits the charge pressure above about 1500 meters, well at least that's what it does on my TDI 110.

The sensor on the ECU is coded F96.

Since you have a non-turbo engine I don't understand why it is appearing in the diagnostics. As far as I can see it should not be in use by the ecu.

What engine code do you have? AGN?
