Apologies to Eddy - and a big thumbs up too! - can`t wait to see the results - should be fantastic

The standard pistons/crank are fine for 500 - just the rods are dodgy i`m told - I read that some of the Vortex guys have passed an incredible 700bhp now!!

Would think that the largeport head is advisable for big power

is anyone doing CNC porting of 1.8T heads in UK? -I know Cosworth are producing CNC jobs for Sub/EVO

Unfortunately I think it's a bit late to go large port now as my head has already been sent off for matching to the valves, however the inlet valves will be 1mm larger diameter than standard.

I`m sure the inlets on a ported smallport head will flow plenty enough - it would be interesting to see the flow data ported smallport/standard largeport

The theroists always worry more about flow capacity on the exhaust side - port/manifold/turbo/exhaust - any restriction there with big power outputs, and things get `difficult` - according to the flow data there`s not much difference between the exhaust ports in the two heads

Are you smallport or largeport Steve?
Dahlback does'nt port to largeport properly as the runners are very narrow still.

Update:

The pistons arrived last week, the block was sent off and has been bored out to suit the new pistons.

Rods arrived this morning.

That's the plan but I think I may struggle to get it sufficiently run in to grace the strip but I'll do my best dependant on when it's finished.

Here's a photo of one of the 83mm JE pistons which I was sent today:

Yes.

Truth is though I'd tried IHI and GT28RS and they weren't for me. However I tried a car with a similar setup to what I'm going for and it just felt right, I knew straight away it was what I wanted for my car.

The valve pockets also have me a little puzzled as the cams and crank are staying standard.

I agree it's such a shame that the pistons won't be seen.

EDIT: The cut outs are for use with high lift cams (which I won't have), the compression ratio is 8.5:1
