Built by SEAT Sport at its motorsport headquarters in Martorell near Barcelona, the pair of stunning SEAT Toledo Cupras are now at Ray Mallock's workshops in Northamptonshire ready for SEAT Sport UK's BTCC drivers Jason Plato (the 2001 BTCC Champion) and Rob Huff (the 2003 Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Champion) to drive them for the first time later this month. The cars will then return to Spain where serious testing will take place in Albacete , where Jason and Rob will put their BTCC cars through three days of intensive high-speed evaluation work.
The SEAT Sport UK Toledo Cupras will appear in the 2004 BTCC in FIA European Touring Car Championship specification and therefore be powered by a 4-cylinder 2000cc atmospheric petrol engine unit, producing 260bhp.
Mark Busfield, Project Manager at RML, said: "Our priority is to learn about the SEAT Toledo Cupra as quickly as we can. That will include a very detailed analysis of the car, starting from the front and working our way to the back, assessing it on a static rig and really getting to understand the car's genetic makeup."
Scott Dennis, SEAT UK Motorsport Manager, said: "Its appropriate that the first official running of the SEAT Sport UK Toledo Cupras will be at the BTCC launch on March 16 th . We are pleased to confirm that we will race with a petrol engine, although behind the scenes we will continue to evaluate the diesel option."
