Herron flies onto front row: A late dash in Round 6 qualifying saw Andrew Herron post the 2nd quickest time and give him a place on the front row. Added to his 3rd place for Round 5 and it's clear the Irishman has found his form. Robert Lawson keeps proving his form at the beginning of the season was no fluke, clinching two pole positions in record times, while behind him Breeze, Byford, Adam, Welch and Herron all swapped round the top six grid positions for the two races. The pace has been frantic and the times all incredibly close so race fans should be in for a treat on Sunday.

If the racing at Donington Park is anywhere near as close as the qualifying sessions, then Rounds 5&6 of the 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship will prove to be hugely entertaining for the fans. In the first qualifying session Robert Lawson (Bardon/JHR) took just four laps to clock a sensational time, smashing the current record in a Cupra around this circuit. His wasn’t the only car to fly though, Carl Breeze (Blue Chip/Welch Motorsport) and Lawson’s JHR team mate Andrew Herron (Brian Herron Plant/JHR) both also beat the existing record to take 2nd and 3rd positions on the grid respectively. The JHR team clearly know the set-up for this track, their third driver James Appleby (Hardinge Machine Tools) also running 8th quickest in Round 5 qualifying and 7th in Round 6.

Jonathan Adam (Total Control Racing), Martin Byford (AB Glass/Z Speed Racing) and Daniel Welch (Marriott/Welch Motorsport) were all in the top six finishers for Round 5 qualifying, and again it was these three, Lawson, Breeze and Herron who were the six quickest for Round 6. In the second session though, the gaps between the six drivers were unbelievably close. Lawson took pole with a slightly slower time than previously, while the other five drivers all improved their times to make the gap between 1st and 6th places just 0.202secs! Even David Green (Daniels Motorsport) down in 11th position is fractionally over 1 second away from Lawson proving just how competitive this field of talented drivers is.
