SEAT LEON EUROCUP IN PAU

Confirming the times clocked during the qualifying session, where he took the pole position, British driver Tom Boardman clinched the victory of the first of two races that the Supercopa SEAT Leon is contesting this weekend in the urban racetrack of Pau. Today’s race was staged on a dry track, which made things even more difficult for the drivers, considering that they had a flooded qualifying sessions.

However, the start was clean and Tom Boardman led the pack from the moment the green lights went on. There was only one incident, which forced second qualified driver Eoin Murray, from Ireland, out of the race, after loosing control of his car and crashing against the metal barrier.

With his main rival out of action, and benefited by the incident that caused the retirement, Boardman enjoyed an advantage he was able to increase progressively, driving all by himself until the end of the race which he finished four seconds before Croatian driver Marin Colak.

The fight for the second place was the most exciting issue during the race. Colak and Spaniard Diego Puyo fought throughout the race and on such a difficult track like Pau, Colak was able to close all doors for the Spaniard who had no chance to take the second place away from him. The gap between them was almost non-existent during the race, but they managed to open a gap of more than ten seconds to Italian driver Andrea Larini and Lourenço Beirao from Portugal, who finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Tom Boardman: "I’m in my element when it rains and I was able to clinch the pole this morning. Starting from the front row I was able to set a fast pace and I’m very happy for the victory".

The second race will be held tomorrow at 13.05.
