The hub nut doesnt hold the disc on. There will be a little screw that holds it on. And you should have undone the screw before you took the calipers off coz the disc usually just spins otherwise

Two hours to undo four bolts? That sounds a bit wrong to me. It shouldn't need any more than a decent set of sockets, a breaker bar and some 'enthusiasm'. If you're changing discs and pads, you should have been able to finish both sides by now.

I usually use an impact driver to remove the disc securing screw, and if that doesn't help I drill the b**gers out.

Made me lol to see the replies to this. I was just being a tw@t, i thought the hub nut held the disc on, massive fail on my part. The bolts that hold the caliper and carriers on were a nightmare, but thankfully the driver's side was much easier to do. Managed to snap the retaining screw on the passenger's side, but hey ho. Discs are a massive improvement over my crappy standard versions, and have got rid of a grinding noise i had when i broke, result!

I wouldn't worry about that bit, none of my brake discs have an intact retaining screw anymore!. I really ought to get round to removing the remnants of the screws and replacing them, but in real terms that screw does next to nothing.

Yeah, bit pointless if you ask me. But they're fitted now, just gotta worry about doing the rears next month :funk:

The rears are a bit more challenging. Removing the caliper, carrier and disc is the same as the front, but rewinding the caliper is a task in itself. Whilst some people have had success with long nosed pliers or other tools, I have to recommend the proper tool. I think it's about £17 from Halfords, or a bit cheaper off Fleabay, and it just makes things so much easier.

Are you sure you want to do the rears? The fronts are much easier than the rear.

Make sure you have the wind back tool before you start on the rears as the pistons on the rear need to turn as they are compressed.

Don't have a choice. Need rear pads so gonna upgrade the discs to match the fronts at the same time.
