another one from me :) managed to get a new bend for 29 quid delivered, check what was up with mine and it had ripped the tab off, now while I have them all off, should I clean the inside of the old pipes ? they seem to have a thick layer of black soot, the EGR valve looks like its never been cleaned

cheers Tom

It will be oil from breather; one non MOT mod is to remove breather feed into air intake because of this.

It will reduce the efficency of your intercooler (oily layer acts as insulation) .. so in an ideal world you take it all off (pipes and intercooler) .. wash out with solvent like petrol (note HSE issues...) and refit. In real world.. not worth that much loss of power.. 2-3% max would be my WAG after 100,000 miles.

ahh quite a bit of crap in yours so imagine what's in mine :-/ will take the pipes off and give them a bit of a clean, would it be alright to leave my rubber intake pipes in engine cleaner overnight ? wouldn't damage it would it

Personally I wouldn't leave them in overnight, the IC pipes won't need much to clean them out, and then rinse them under running water. Have you seen what engine cleaner does to latex gloves? I would be careful submersing the EGR valve in Engine cleaner as well, as I've heard of that damaging the diaphragms in the vaccum units.
