A couple of questions on a 2001 Toledo

Hi Guys.
Need your help here on these queries.

The car is a 2001 Toledo 1.9 tdi (90 bhp)
Wind up windows in the rear and no electric mirrors
No Foglamps
No Aircon

1)

Can we fit electric mirrors to this from one that has them? Are the wires in the door loom already?

2)

Would mirror caps from a MK1 Octavia fit perfectly on the Toledo mirror?

3)

If we got a set of Foglamps from a car that has them, how easy is it to fit them?
Again are they pre wired to the fog position only to plug them in and replace the switch in the dash or is it major surgery ;)

4)

Currently single din headunit but looking to fit double din.
Not interested in fitting a full aircon system but what are our options?

Can we use the control panel from a car with aircon and just hook everything from the car to it and have it work as is now?

Hope I was clear in my questions.
Look forward to your replies.

Cheers

You say "no aircon". If I take that at face value, it means there is no air cooling system in the car, the cabin air controls are just a set of dials with a single button for recirculation. Fitting the refrigeration system would be a major undertaking.

If you have two buttons, one marked AC, then you have the cooling system, which a lot of people describe as "aircon".

The additional difference between the above system and the "Climatronic" system with the LCD screen is that all the flaps and the cabin air fan are controlled by the climate control, the flaps by servomotors, and there are several additional temperature sensors. It is feasible to replace the manual cabin air system with a Climatronic version but you'd need to take the whole of the dash off to get to the plumbing and pipework. You can't just fit the Climatronic control unit and expect it to work.

You are correct,

It is just the bog standard heating system
Hot and cold.. absolutely no aircon whatsoever.
So basicallly it is a no go without major work,

I'm afraid so. Probably cost more than the car is worth - cheaper to buy another car with aircon fitted.

There's a thread on here somewhere about fitting a double-DIN unit (the sat-nav unit) in place of a single-DIN. You lose the ashtray.

Your other questions need answers from someone who knows the wiring loom differences between cars. I've never had the problem, both my Toledos came with fogs and electric mirrors.

Looking at the various references I have (Haynes Golf 4 manuals, VAG-cat parts diagrams, Elsawin) I can say:

If you have completely manual mirrors then I'm sure you will need the central convenience unit, switch panels, door control units, looms and mirrors from a donor car.

The wiring loom diagrams seem to show that the front foglamp connectors are included. Look for them inside the bumpers. You will need a new lighting switch with the second stage of pullout.

I wasn't even aware you could get a toledo without those features! Nor was I aware the 2001 was the older 90bhp tdi, I thought they only did the 110 that year, hence the SE designation, don't think I've seen a non SE model, I'm intrigued, as it sounds more like a Skoda.

I would say if it is the billy basic model, then it would be missing the necessary wiring for the mirrors and possibly the fogs too.

As for stereo, trying to picture it now, I have the aircon unit at the bottom then a double din Satnav/stereo, but the wifes toledo, and my old tdi, had a single din stereo and the aircon, without going outside to look her car, I can't picture the size and how it all fits, clearly if I have double din it must be possible somewhere, assuming the basic heater module is only single din as well. But why double din? my Tdi had a faulty headunit so I bought a replacement(and code) off Ebay for £20.

But why double din?

Sat nav and dvd combo like you get for the Mk4 golf. You are right about the wiring though I think, it's certainly the case with the golf anyway, if it isn't there then neither is the wiring for it.
The mirrors would be easy though as you basically just supply the power and the switch does the rest, the heated part just wires into the rear dimister switch.
I have no bells or whistles in my golf (I threw out the morris dancers) but I do have it all stacked in my wee room ready to go in. :D

Leccy mirrors, leccy windows, clocks with display, crusie etc, fancy a double din unit at some point but there's no hurry.

Toledo was never available in UK spec in 90bhp, this car sounds to me that it is an import from the Republic of Ireland.

Almost correct,
This car is in Southern Ireland

Was going to say to nip over the border and buy a UK spec one with all those bits on it, but getting a clean one is almost impossible!!!

Southern Ireland is The Republic Of Ireland..!!!!!!!

No one is said any different.

I thought possibly the car had been imported into UK/NI when new from the ROI.
vectra has informed me that the car is a ROI spec one and is still there. The fact I said it was an import is where the almost correct bit came from.
