Fitted the $hark Fin antenna today.

The original Antenna Base is secured with One bolt on the underside of the Roof.
To get to this bolt, you must first remove a rear portion of the roof lining. Basic guide...

Open the Boot, then pull back the rubber Seal thats around the top of the bootlid. You can then pull down the roof lining thats secured into it. You might need to do this right the way along the top. Be careful not to push the roof lining down too far, as it creases easily, which wont look great when re-fitted.

Once you've reached the Bolt, first disconnect the leads for the Base. There were 2 on mine, 1 for the aerial, the other was power, as the original Antenna is amplified/boosted.
These connectors are also secured in by clips at the top of the bootlid.

Finally, unscrew the Bolt, then the Antenna + Base can be pulled off the roof, along with the attached leads.

The new $hark Fin is also boosted for best reception (there was a version that just has the antenna / not boosted). I cut the wires from the original Antenna base that I removed (with the original connectors on the ends), which I then soldered to the leads on this $hark Fin. This keeps the cars wiring original with no modifications needing to be made. The $hark Fin then fits the original Connectors in the car, once fitted.

Reception is actually great with this new item, easily on a par if not better than the original Antenna, alot more stylish too. It's a nice solid construction, gloss black finish, metal base, plus rubber edge which makes secure contact with the curved roof all the way around - no gaps!

That looks mint fair play! Might have to get my hands on one of these as my radio doesn't seem to be connected - Throws up a couple of error codes on VAG-COM too. Just thinking if I need to get a new Base then i might aswell go for a $hark fin.

So here's the Golf GPS Antenna in situ on the Leon. It's placed on the roof, testing it for size etc, before bolting it up.

Comparing the Two, the original $hark above is long and sweeping (colour is Gloss black), good bit longer than this Golf one.
This one however looks more OEM (obviously), plus more compact and has a very nice shape to it. So I've swapped to this one. Colour is Matt black.

Can anyone confirm the connection on the link I mentioned is the correct one? From what I remember from ages ago it looks the same.

Hi mate,

Looks good. What is radio reception like? And the gps functionality using the new aerial?

Direct from vag?

Cheers
