Curing wheel spin and torque steer...?

Bought my Cupra TDi back in mid September. Previous owner stated he wasn't aware of a re map, but judging by the performance I'm pretty sure it has. Around 200 bhp and just under 300 lbs ft I'm guessing.

The problem is (and the cold wet, greasy and damp roads don't help!) wheel spin and torque steer. I know it's to be expected, but for the right money I'd like to quell some of this ungainly loss of traction and regain as much as I can.

I figure a L S D is out the question, gonna be nigh on 1.5 k when fitted.

Front tyres are Kumho Ecsta. Planning to upgrade to my favourite the Michelin Exalto in the coming months which will probably help.

So bar a slip diff and tyres what can I do that'll SERIOUSLY make a difference?

Car is primarily used on the public roads. It might see a track day, but the focus is on getting the best for road usage.

Thanks :)

Yup, change of tyres would be a good start, that said any summer rubber in the temps we're seeing at the moment will still be far from ideal.

Stiffer engine mounts tend to improve things. With standard/old engine mounts the torque is stored up like a rubber band, and only when it gets to a certain point is it released to the wheels. Stop the engine moving and the torque gets straight to the wheels in a much smoother manner. It's certainly stopped my Toledo from doing the normal 'bouncy bouncy' at takeoff.

When i lowered the car it seemed to improve the torque steer. Tyres would a good starting point tho and go from there.

Go get the car rolling roaded! Have a look at the map and see what the torque curve is like it might be a **** map and all the torque is coming at once rather than progressively

When I lowered mine it seemed to stop the front kicking up so much and spinning so easily

Just gotten the powerflex dogbone bush on mine... Absolutely fantastic improvement in traction and feel through the front end. My suprpro mount had failed previously and i'd done untold nasty things to a standard One after that!

Ye, this definitely helped my car put its power down, less wheel hop etc.

My cupra does the same and it's not remapped just part of the trouble of front wheel drive cars.

Where did you get your updated dog bone bushes from?

try pulling away more gentley or feed the throttle in smoothly most of the above can be stopped by driving properly rather than ramming the throttle down and epecting to grip. :)

+1 need to feed the power in against the limit of grip... the more progressive the more grip there is. That and decent tyres of course.

Ok, point taken. The current engine mounts are working fine at the moment. Though it'd probably be worth replacing them with up rated items if they fail.

Who makes the up rated ones and how much are they?

A trip to the dyno is on the cards, this way I ll know for sure if it has been remapped (which I'm pretty sure it has). The torque curve is pretty satisfactory as it is. If the driveability was poor then Id probably look into this.
