Well, I have an issue with the way my R has been running for well over 12 months now (hence not having stretched his legs for ages ) & he's now in the 4th garage who have finally found "issues":

there is play in turbo
breather pipes are gunged up with a mix of oil & water which has been being fed into my engine instead of air,
my head gasket has gone
intercoolers are full of oil
the manifold is also cracked & needs replacing
...most of this appears to be due to the idiots at the stealers not having a clue on the dozen occasions I've taken him back & told them I had a running issue & think it's air related so can they check the pipes, only to be told that their's nothing wrong, they think he's running great for his age & if its not broke don't fix it [:@]:censored:[:@]

Jonny is the original car used for the press releases of this model, I have a set of showroom boards with him doing his modeling job:D
...so, he's quite special & question is... .. is he worth repairing & can anyone help me source cheap or used parts to save this special fella ???

PLEEEEEASE... I need the following:

I've been quoted £1957 :-o for parts & £700 for labour!

-Details of somewhere (reliable) where I can either pick up a recon Turbo or get mine inspected & rebuilt
-2 breather pipes from the cam cover & oil filter housing which meet at a T piece
-replacement manifold
-Turbo inlet pipe
-Head gasket set
-Head bolt set
-Timing belt & damper set
-Water pump
- Oil filter
-Dip stick tube

Also could do with a pair of rear springs & an uprated shock mount kit (inc bearings & bushes)

Any help will be much appreciated, thanks peeps ;)

That's quite a wee list...

Firstly, how have the garage determined the head gasket is gone? Oil in the coolant? Mayo on the dipstick? A blown HG on the 1.8t is a pretty rare occurance, tends to be the electrical parts and the breather hoses that fail.

It sounds to me as though the turbo is indeed goosed - it's leaking oil into the boost pipes (hence why your intercoolers are full of oil).

The gungy mess in the breathers could be caused by the car not getting decent runs to get it all hot - especially if the turbo is leaking more oil into the intake, the increase in condensation at this time of year causes the gunk.

First thing to do would be get a second opinion on the headgasket - I'd be very surprised at it having failed tbh. Claiming the gunk in the breathers is a failed HG doesn't really work, you'd expect to find it on the dipstick too - in fact, drop the oil, you'll be able to see if its full of water as that will flow out first from the sump, with the oil on top.

I know, much bigger list than expected!
I've had a compression test done & whilst its not too bad, all these other things have come to light since having the engine dismantled to inspect, I actually trust these guys, they seem to know their stuff & are recommending I don't have stuff done that the stealers quoted for! They've physically shown me the problems including the play in the turbo & cracked manifold so I know they're not trying to spank me - in fact they seem a little weary of spending so much on car of his age.
You're right, it is mainly the breather hoses that have caused all the issues (which is why I'm flippin fuming), I'm gutted it's gonna cost so much but kinda relieved it's finally been found, cylinder head is just a job that may as well be done now its off???
Main thing I'm looking for is to try & reduce the quotes of the turbo (£720), manifold (£365), breather pipes from cam cover & oil filter housing (£130), turbo inlet pipe (£135), and maybe timing belt kit (£117 plus wqater pump £35)...

try Beach Buggy Turbos for Turbo
for breather pipes do a Pcv delete by using 1m of 19mm i/d oil hose and a 19mm T-piece(about £25)

Brill, thanks! I've found somewhere that will refrb mine for £340 + VAT - does that sound reasonable?

Will do - thanks.

I'd already started typing a new thread before seeing this so once again, my apologies for the duplicate topic! :)

Its not going to cost anything like £2700 if you shop around/buy used parts. Just at first glance you could save £800ish on parts..I'm pretty sure there is someone who breaks LCR's on here, unfortunately I can't remember his username, I'm sure someone will know.

Where are you based bud?

Blackpool - I've found a manifold on ebay (he'll do BIN for £60) & think I'm in luck with a turbo too for £115 (fingers crossed its the right one), if not, I've found someone who'll refurb for £340+VAT so saved quite a few quid there too...
