It can be done but, from what I've read here, older versions might require a new USB socket.
I asked a dealership about activating Full Link in a 2016 Leon and it was just a matter of entering a code.

I think retrofit has been covered elsewhere. You'd have to rip out quite a bit of kit and replace it along with coding and labour. So while possible not worth it. Above sure I did say it was possible with a manufacturer year 2016 (late 2015 onward) cars but they'd have to have the tech pack - which is the vast majority but there are one or two cars I've seen in the past with the non tech pack and they can't have the code entered.

I've got a 2014 Leon FR Tech so would be very interested what SEAT has to say.

I suspect we'd need a newer MIB (version 2) and USB/Aux port 5G0 035 222 E or newer.

Many thanks for contacting SEAT UK Customer Services regarding the potential of retrofitting Full Link to your vehicle.

I have discussed your query with our Parts Support Team; they have advised that it is not possible to retrofit Full Link to your vehicle.* The generation one radio system equipped to your vehicle is not compatible with Full Link which requires a generation two system.* Sadly this cannot be changed.

I understand this is not the news you wanted to hear and I apologise for any disappointment caused.

it is possible to retrofit it quite easily but to actually get it to work is hard. its requires software hacks and actually requires the processor to be sent to spain.

Looked into it myself and it was going to cost ££££

I wondered if all you'd need was:
- MIB2 Unit (Glovebox?)
- matching Screen (i.e removed from the same car as the MIB2)
- correct wiring loom between head unit and screen.
- USB/Aux Port and wiring to MIB unit.

Assuming you could get somebody to remove the component protection, and you had access to/competency with VCDS.

Can there really be more to it than than? I assume this will cost a few Pesos?

What you need is a MIB2 infortainment system unit, 6,5" or 8" screen and new USB/Aux port if you already have a 5,8" MIB infortainment system. You need to modify the screen connector HSD plug in the cars wiring harness by cutting few tabs. This can be done with a knife.
Some new wiring is also needed for the new USB/Aux connector.

If you buy a used MIB2 infortainment system unit you need to have the component protection removed by SEAT or send the unit to eastern europe to some hacker who has access to ODIS. Component protection can not be removed with VCDS.

In the link below you'll find some information about fitting the MIB2 unit and screen. Use Google Translate to change the text from Spanish to English.

Your car will have the same as mine = MIB Generation 1. Easiest way to check: Pop out your Navigation SD Card from the MIB Unit. If the part number on SD Card starts:
5F0... =MIB Generation 1 system
6P0... = MIB2 Generation 2 system

What I don't know yet is if screens used with MIB1 units are compatible with MIB2. Anybody know this?

The 5,8" screens used with MIB1 units are not compatible with MIB2 units. They have different resolution. Also the connector to the 5.8" (MIB1) screen needs to be modified when upgrading to a MIB2 unit and 6,5" or 8" screen.

I've managed to purchase a few parts highlighted above. I will let you know when they arrive, how I go about removing Component Protection and what is required for installation and coding. Wish me luck!!

Any dealer can remove component protection but I was told by MQB Coding that even if you remove the CP it still wont work properly and will need to be sent off to be "hacked"

:( Don't say that! I've just bought a MIB2 unit and screen. I've contacted SEAT Arnold Clark in Edinburgh who seemed quite happy to help. Left them with a bunch of part numbers, VRMs and VIN numbers to work out what is possible. I'm aware one plug/connector at each end (Rear of screen and new aux/USB). Will post any info I get back from them. I've found a UK company that claim to be able to remove CP if SEAT/VW can't/won't. Would prefer the OEM route though.
