Hi, my name is Ryan I am new to this, so I hope this is the right place to post. I am looking at purchasing my first hot hatch and after many months I have decided to go with a Leon Cupra. I had a test drive of the new 290 but I was not impressed at how quiet the car had sounded. I have watched many videos online and the 300 seems to sound alot more fun to drive. I have not test drove the 300 yet though. I'm wondering if to purchase a year old 290 or to go with the 300. what are your thoughts?

Thanks

I know the new ones are quieter and if it’s already something on your mind you won’t be happy,I think the 300 is louder from posts I have seen.

If you order brand new it’s taking months to get them,July 10th I ordered and have no build week yet and could be next year !

I’m sure others will have comments but YouTube will help

300 every time. you have a better engine to modify if you are interested. probably also get a better spec.

Desire Red is a great color

Well done, now all you have to do is post some nice pics and give us full details of the spec so we can all drool over your new car.

Enjoy and remember they shift so watch you speed rather than the boys in blue.

Is the engine different in the 290? I’ve had the 300 and just picked up the 290 yesterday and did notice a difference when I started it.

A new 290 has a GPF in the exhaust but I think that's it apart from maybe a little less power...

Yes the engine is different in the 290 in order to meet WLTP rules.

Basic engine is the same but for instance there is not a set of low pressure injectors on the top of the engine so in years to come these cars will suffer with carbon build up like the previous generation engines.

GPF Added to the exhaust system to remove more stuff from the exhaust and I am sure there are other bits as well.

Ahhh yes forgot about the injectors! Basically gone back to the same setup as my MK2 lol which doesn't cope well with carbon after 9 years it seems...

The exhaust note sounds so strange. I’ve only got 34 miles on it so haven’t gave it the wellie, but I don’t think it’ll sound as good as the 300

I'm not sure of the correct term for the color but its Grey. It wasn't the color that I wanted as I was looking at getting the car in blue or black but its low mileage and a really good spec. I will wait until I get the car on thursday and will take pics and let you guys know what spec the car is

Thank you mate,
I would be interested in going to a car meet and getting some advice about what first mods to put on the lovely Cupra. I'm from Coventry so Letchworth would be the closest one for myself.

Make yourself known in that thread buddy and when a private chat arises I'll get you added in so you know what's what and when.

Looking forward to spending your money haha
