Roug idle at 1.100rpm

Hey,

I've got a 1.6 16v 2003 Leon

Recently I cleaned the throttle body, everything went smooth, I reconnected the battery and started the car.

The car couldn't make it past 1000 rpm, the sensor wasn't connected, I quickly turned the car off and connected it to the throttle body.

But now the car idles at 1.100rpm and when coming down to a stop revs jump from 1.100 to 2000 for 2-3 seconds and stabilize at 1.1000 again.

I have no loss in power, nor any misfires.

I have no idea what's happening, could someone help?

Edit: Doing some tests and I found out that It won't let me stall the car, I can just let it roll in first, and the RPMs will be 1.500-2000 no matter what.

This seems very concerning, the car is also very loud at idle.

I hope someone finds my issue :/

If you’ve only removed it for cleaning, Sounds like you need to perform throttle body alignment via VCDS or similar so that it can learn the positions again.

Google VCDS throttle body alignment and have a look on the Ross tech info page.

Hi there, I'm no expert at all and I'm sure someone will pop along with more advice, but disconnecting the throttle body can apparently cause issues similar to what you are having, you may need to have vcds done to re align the butterfly in throttle body or something like that. Good luck

After trying to do something about it for a day I cannot find the reason why it's still happening.

All I have left to try is VCDS throttle alignment with the dealer since I don't have a laptop or those cables needed :/

I will update this post after the dealer in the next week.

PS: I also noticed it's climbing to 90 C faster than usual?

EDIT:

After VCDS, I aligned throttle and cleared all the codes, restarted ecu everything.

The problem is still there, it revs by itself from 1500 to 2000 when the clutch is held down or put in neutral, stops when I brake completely.

Any ideas guys ?...

I'm starting to get hopeless and would have to sell the car :/

Dont give up m8.

Why did you clean it out in the 1st place? Was it running poorly
What codes came up?

P0402

EGR A FLOW Excessive Detected. That is why I cleaned it.

Could it be sparkplugs and coils ?

EDIT: I also want to say that when I wanted to clean the EGR, I had to stop, because when I tried to unbolt it the thread broke. I know it sounds critical but trust me it isn't, the EGR didn't move a single bit and is still held up by the other nut, no gaps anything.

Did it have any running problems or warning light?
None, no running problems, sometimes the EPC lights but no codes shown and it disappears after ignition restart. The rpms at idle right now are jumping from 950 to 1050

Same as Rich T be interested to know what it ran like before cleaning the throttle body and snapping a nut on the egr.

It can take some mileage before it settles after a re alignment and even though it looks sealed it won’t be and the ecu is having trouble working e right mixture

Did you take the throttle body off?
If so, id be inclined to say air leak between that and the inlet manifold.
Id take it back off and grease the gasget/O ring between the 2.
Any other solenoides or anything else removed and refitted? Do the same there too.
Sorry, im mot familiar with the engine so just trying to advise as best I can.

Before anything it ran around 700-800 rpm idle, and that shifting RPM jumping never happened. I'm gonna try with the EGR, that might be the issue, but at this point what can I even do ? It snapped..
