Does anyone else get a sort of crunching/creaking noise from the rear suspension when its wet ? i get this when going over speed bumps mainly.
The noise goes away when the weather dries up but with the cold damp weather continuing its starting to P me off, is it worth taking the car back to the dealers as its only one year old? or does anyone know a quick fix, oh my car is a Ibiza Cupra TDi. Thanks

Well at least we're all having the same issue, so probably nothing to worry about really

Hi ppl,

From reading posts about a year ago, i beleive its the nylon / whatever plastic they use for the rear bushes drying out with the salt on the roads.
The picture I get in my head is that the bushes just have the moisture pulled from them due to the salt and then they creak.

I find if when washing the car (weekly for me usually) use the hose to just squirt the water in and around the rear arch to replenish the the moisture. Usually cures it for a few days until the salt draws the water out again.

Only happens when roads are being salted, the last cpl of weeks for me!

Regards

Nick

^^^Makes sense to me

Weirdly, I noticed the exact same issue yesterday and it's bloody annoying. Does that mean I need to go out and wash the car now? ;)

I'm just going to leave mine until it goes away. Bit worried about the salt damaging the bushes and stuff but no point in rinsing it if it's just going to come back again.

a11y, yeh that was my excuse to wash it this morning, I'll report back later or over the next couple of days to say if washing the car has replenished moisture in the bushes and the creaking has gone away for a few days!

mines stopped now so the salt theory sounds about right to me. Sounds like a common issue so i feel better now but god its annoying thanks for the replies

i had a problem with sqeaking when i went over bumps in my old punto... sounded terminal, thort it was damaged to suspension, turned out to be a poorly lubricated handbrake cable rubbing underneath the car.... Its worth checkin out things like that before you panic...

I get this also from the rear suspension, started about 2 weeks ago when the weather went really cold, and has now stopped doing it on one side. The other, still sounding weird and its really annnoying. At first I thought I'd left something in the boot, or it was the rear seatbelt clip thing rubbing on the window. Glad to read other people have it also and I'll try giving the wheel arches etc a good wash.

I've had the same problem for the past three winters and I'm certain it's the salt on the roads causing the bushes to 'dry out'. As has been said a good squirt round the suspension with a hose should help or a couple of days of rain should sort it out.
