Hi Guys,

I know that front brake pads have been talked about loads and loads, and that you read the title and all started searching for the funny 'try searching' graphics, but hold tight a minute.

After doing a fair bit of looking around, and looking through here, i have established that the pads that seat provide are made by Textar and another company. Is this correct?

Based at that info, http://www.vwspares.co.uk/leon_brakes.php the Textar pads on here for £35 are the ones to get? Is that correct.

What leads me to ask the question, is that if these are this price, why is everyone spending a ton on the Ferodo's?

Maybe i am missing something. Please tell me if i am.

Thanks
Ben

Are you sure they are not a cheaper alternative?. I'm sure my OE ones I taken out had Brembo stamped on them.
I swapped the for the Ferodo's also.

If the brembo pads are actually brembo pads, where can i buy them from?
I cant find them online to buy anywhere!

So the brembo pads that the stealer fits are better performance than the 'cheaper' version which other garages may fit?

If i buy cheaper pads, am i going to kill myself by not having brembos or ferodos? i really need to save the £'s at the moment, but im not prepared to compromise safety. Surely they cant sell them if they are no good.

Textars for el-cheapo are el-cheapo for a reason..
pop round you rlocal motor factors and textars will be one of their offerings, for those who dont care about the quality of their brakes but just want something on there. Textar make an assortment of qualities vs price. how do you know what these are?

DS2500 ferodo's are upgrade pads, way better than std..

Those looking for better than OE are well pleased with what they do.

I too need brake pads at some point soon but I hear that with the DS2500, I have to cut the brake pad indictator wiring or something so I avoid getting a light on the instrument cluster? Is that true?

I am not completely comfortable with permanently altering things like that on my car so if I was to buy Brembo pads, would I still retain the brake wear indictor feature?

Yeah, if you go for the ferodos you do have to connect the indicator cable together as the ferodos cant have the sensor in them.

I was a little weary about doing this, although the flip side of that, is the light has never come on before and i am close to the metal, so they dont work anyway.

So if textar are cheap, ferodos are good, where can i buy brembos?

although ferodos are cheaper than brembos right?

This is difficult.

ive heard the ds2500 are good, but are still expensive. TEXTAR are a decent make and OE on BMW, MERCEDES ETC, they are in the same range as mintex and pagid i have even had textar pads and in the box the pad has been stamped pagid. so arnt cheap crap like some out there such as aut x, vetech. if you arnt so bothered about stoping from 80mph in 30mph streets anyway they will be fine, if you are planning track days or police chases around the city then the ds2500 look like the best option. (jokes)

you are "pemanently altering" NOTHING by cutting the sensor wire off the old worn out pads and linking the wire ends together and plugging it back into the car to keep the dash happy.

The wear sensors are notoriuously unreliable anyway.
