What is the difference?

I am buying a T reg GTI 16v, but it has Cupra seats.

Autotrader and insurance website say they are two different cars.

Please can someone confirm this for me.

yup two dff models, cs being the slightly lighter version seeing as it didnt get aircon and sunroof as standard. gti is the fully loaded model,. 0-60s are pretty much identical.

I suspect it's probably actually a Cupra Sport - or GTI 16v Cupra Sport to give it its' full title. Basically it comes down to differences in the specs - as Brendy says, Cupra Sport models don't generally have so many toys compared with GTI (non Cupra Sport)models. The easy way to find out is, of course, to have a look and see what the log book/registration document/V5 says. May not actually be the correct model designation but at least your insurance company would have trouble getting out of paying a claim if the details of your insurance match with what the DVLA reckon it is!

While we're on about it - non Cupra Sport GTI models SHOULD have been obsolete by T reg - March->August '99. BUT, as we've seen many many many times before, model history is a little chequered - the transition from GTI to Cupra Sport was not as clean as it may have been intended to be. Full GTI spec models registered as Cupra Sport's and vice versa. And that's before you start thinking about GTI Cupra Sport Plus models...

Apparently the cupra has 30% thinner soundproofing, an alloy sump and various other weight saving stuff, all rally orientated I suppose!

Suspension is slightly different. I had to buy standard springs for mine and said it was for a gti 2.0 16v. When I gave my chassis no. I was told that it was not a gti 16v, but a gti cupra sport 16v, and springs are loads more :(

Also, standard gti16v had air-con, cupra sport didn't. Sunroof on gti as well, but not on cupra sport iirc.

Had both, a T Reg Cupra Sport 16V & currently a GTI 16V, only differences are the Air-Con, Sunroof, Recaro's (optional on GTI), Silver wheels & Seatbelts (Red on the Cupra), insurance with Admiral is the same, the only differences I've found are due to age my R-Reg had a different Brake fluid resevoir so far!! little things like that where the supplier may have changed during production!
