As far as I know the 1.2 TSI has a water cooled charge cooler so not sure how the FMIC would work in conjunction with this, if at all. The upgrade path would be a larger charge cooler and/or radiator but doubt these are available at all. Not an expert though so don't quote me!!!

Yes, that's right; cooling water flows around the turbo and through the air/water intercooler to cool the air before it enters the engine. The water then flows through a radiator at the front of the car (separate from the main one AFAIK). It is pumped round by an electric pump which is switched on and off, mainly to control the intake air temperature. In some cars (including mine) you can hear the control relay clicking as the pump is switched on and off.

Before changing all that you'd need to show that this system was incapable of cooling the intake air adequately.

I managed to find a video on the engine and your both right it is a water intercooler on the back of the engine. So basically this would seem impossible to do as im not sure u can buy a bigger water intercooler even then if you could i dont think it would make much of a difference... I know what u mean about hearing the clicking when the engine is turned off ive always wondered what that was! Haha
