Got the clip but a bit confused as to which end of the rod it goes on. Left or right as i’m facing the car?

It goes on the end away from the actuator. It will only fit on one end and one way round.

Ok, got the clip fitted but still a bit play. I noticed that the hole in the clip is a smaller diameter than the circlip so sits hard up against it. There is play between the circlip and the end of the rod, so i might open the hole up so it fits over the circlip and hopefully eliminates that wee bit play

The clip I got fits perfectly, as if it were made for the job. Which of course..it is. Rem I also used high-temp grease to hopefully further dampen the parts. I don't know how much or if it helps.

Does your clip fit over the top of the circlip or sit on top?

Over it. There is only one way it will fit on properly. If I remember correctly it's on the left end of the link, from underneath with the hole in the clip facing backwards. But that could be wrong! Just try it different ways.

Appreciate your input mate. That all sounds the same as mine except the clip doesn't fit over the circlip. Just out of interest, what year is your car ? Mine is a 65

It's a 2016. There is a hole in the clip. The round end of the pin fits in the hole. I don't think it will matter if it doesn't fit perfectly, as long as it's not going to fall off and stops the link from rattling.

Really appreciate this thread guys, purchased a 2016 Leon ST couple of months back which had a horrible rattle in eco mode. Got it tested by SEAT who said turbo needed replacing, which garage did but rattle still remained.

I purchased the clip off ebay (£10) and with some copaslip the rattle disappeared. Though when fitting it there was still a tiny bit of movement.

Unfortunately after a week the rattle returned (no where near as bad but still audible when windows down) if i use more copaslip and a pair of pliers to tighten the clip the rattle goes again but only for a week or two.

Just wondering if you bought the £10 clip or a supposedly OEM one that i can see for about £30 and whether its cheaper/thinner metal thats slowly expanding thats causing the issue? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I bought the clip I linked to which seems fairly sturdy. You need to be careful which grease you use as the turbo gets very hot and will bake most of them.

Copaslip's range is apparently -40°C up to +1100°C so thought that'd do the trick.
I've been applying about a pea sized amount and then pushing it in-between the components with a thin piece of plastic.
The clip i got i could bend in one hand, in trying to fit it originally it got bent too wide and i pushed it back together. It sits on tightly enough that i'm not worried about it falling off, but equally like i say it doesnt firmly press down that i can't still get some copaslip under.

The clip I got seemed fairly stiff. There is still a little noise but nothing like it was. Maybe taking it off once a year and re-greasing, I don't know.

Was also experiencing the annoying rattle in eco mode. Thanks to this thread I bought the clip and fitted it to the left side (as I’m facing the car) of the turbo linkage. Took a short while to fit it and works a treat. Just wondering what the long term effect of having the clip there is; can it cause any issues with the linkage arm or wastegate?
