1.6 CR TDi EGR blanking / DPF removal

Hi all, my 2010 1.6 Tdi Eco has developed a fault in the last few days, the glow plug light came on and engine went into limp mode, however it reset when the engine was switched off, only to return a couple of miles further down the road this time with the emissions warning light on. A mechanic friend plugged his diagnostic into it today and it threw up a P046C error - he suggests the EGR valve is stuck open. I plan on removing it to clean on Friday with his help and he suggests blanking the inlet port off to prevent further problems.
Is it possible to so this on the MK2 1.6 tdi without the ECU detecting it and throwing up another fault? Also can this course of action cause knock on problems with other components ie the CAT or DPF?

Any advice appreciated

I know mine my engine 2.0 170 facelift that if you blank it off then it will throwing a light up. You can buy a gasket with a small hole in so it still lets gasses through therefore not bringing on a light and better than before. You can buy a through pipe to blank off the EGR but this will need mapping out.

And I can't see any knock effects however it will be better for the engine as dirty air won't be recirculating back through the engine.

Edit* I also cleaned mine the other month and it wasn't too sooted up (50k miles). Was very fidly to change due to two bolts not been visable so I would recommend this first before blanking it off

Well after looking around and hearing with att couple of workshops I found that a new valve would cost around 500euro, however my insurance coverd it. Took the workshop 12 hours to change it... It is not placed very well on the 1.6 tdi 105hp..
