Trying to sort a few leaks on my engine and looking to replace the turbo oil feed pipe.
Anyone had the pleasure of doing the job themselves?
Where does it attach to the engine?
TPS quoted about £104+vat.
Seems expensive???

Cheers Rich

It runs around the engine block to the oil filter/ cooler housing.
I had the engine out and loom disconnected when I swapped mine over but would imagine it's a ballache with everything in situ.

I could only see about the first 8 inches before it disappears over the bell housing lol.
Think I'll change it anyway. Scared myself to death earlier, looking online at collapsed and knackered pipes.
Not even sure if its leaking but going to do it soon. It'll bug me if i dont.

Extra question if i may?
I want to change the oil cooler to block seal soon (ordered today). Do you just undo the giant centre nut that the filter thread is on?
Also are there any O rings that i forgot to order on sead threaded nut?

Cheers

Yes, remove the oil filter to reveal the large hex nut on the threaded tube.
Undo this (not usually that tight)
The oil cooler will then slide downwards which will allow easier access to the housing to block retaining bolts (12 point)
There's one large rubber O-ring above the cooler and a large pressed steel gasket between the housing and engine block.

Got the parts here but not sure when ill get time to do the job.
Just found an image online of a bare block.
Does water pass through from the block to cooler housing as well as oil?
Wasnt going to drain the coolant but looks like i may have too.

No only oil passes between the filter housing and block.
Coolant simply goes in and out of the oil cooler via the two rubber hoses attached to it.

For future ref the coolant is piss easy to drain on these cars anyway, there's a tap on the bottom rad inlet.

Agreed, probably the easiest I've ever drained in fact and very easily caught in a container if you need to reuse it.

Well, i got a bit done on the car this aftenoon.
1st off was to replace the oil pick up in the sump. Sump off and cleaned. Wasn't too bad in there to be honest. Replaced the pick up pipe and refitted the sump. That VW silicone goes off quick!

Whilst i was unscrewing the oil filter the cooler housing was moving. The nut was loose. I think the oil filter was holding it all together.
Unscrewed the nut and replaced the O ring behind the cooler.
Oil leak fixed :)
VW oil n filter fitted.
Job done.

Turbo oil feed pipe next. Had a look whilst i was there. Looks a real pig of a job.
Going to save back an afternoon in a couple of weeks to tackle that gig.
Just gotta get myself mentally prepared for that one lol
