I'm thinking of trading in my Leon 1.6tdi SE soon for a FR 2 litre DSG.
I'm stuck on whether to get a 150 or 184.
I know obviously I would prefer the power of the 184 but how economical is the 184? and how economical is the 150?

I've got a list in my head of what options I want. But I've seen that I can get a used one for the same price I paid for my SE.

Thanks in advance

My 150 is on Fuelly. If I make any effort to drive economically, it'll average about 57mpg on a normal mixed commute, and low 60's for long distance motorway stuff.

CR150 drives like a CR engine, CR184 drives like a PD engine

Basically the PD engines used to be really punchy with the torque delivery where as CR engines are very smooth.. I prefer the PD style torque delivery.

I personally test drove around 10 2.0 TDIs before typing the dreaded 4 digits in to the card machine.

The 150 is definitely a nice car, I found it a little smoother around town most likely due to my heavy right foot.

The 184 just seems to have that edge for longer trips (which most of mine are) pulling throughout the rev range.

I opted for the 184 in the end as I just preferred the additional power.

I have an FR150 and test drove a 184. Quite frankly, in the real world, the difference is negligible. Unless that is you worry about the time taken for a boy racer 0-60 and such irrelevancies.
Just completed 2500 mile tour and returned 58mpg of mixed driving, but in terms of miles, mostly motorway/dual carriageway.

I think if you try both, you'd prefer the delivery of the 184. And given the difference in consumption is really negligible....the 184 is the better choice, IMHO.
There are a lot of well-specced pre-reg/demos in showrooms to look at, and some REALLY nice low-mileage ones in FR certainly.
good luck whichever you choose.

I get between 48-56mpg from my 184. Usually works out at 50-53mpg on a tankful.

Mix of commute driving, that involves some london stop-start (sometimes nightmarish), and motorways/a-roads.

If I made efforts to be more economical, I know I'd get better economy. But... for normal driving, and the occasional bit of right-foot heaviness, I'm very happy.
