Internally they are the same as the 1.8t coil packs. So no they are not worth the extra out lay.

It's literally a reliability upgrade mate.

I had 3 coilpacks blow in a week, since doing the upgrade I havnt had an issue.

The TFSI coilpack is actually a Stronger Coil compared to the Revised Hitachi 1.8T and allows a Stronger Spark Under Load..

Ive sold Loads of these And they work....Remeber these aint gonna be a no remap lol But still have effects on improving things on running...

I've been running them on a standard Cupra for about 4 months. Had to get a new set of coilpacks anywy, so thought why not as the set of Red 2.0T was cheaper anyway which offset the cost of the adapters.

Hasn't made a blind bit of difference to the running and its too early to say if they last any longer.
No issues so far though!

im still confused regards these..
The ING thead says they took them apart and didnt see any difference.. but then go on to say buy them as they are better....
people talk of running larger spark plug gaps on these, or higher resistance..

So are they different internally or not? Its worryingly easy for forum hype to go into overdrive.

I can't see how they can be any better myself, more reliable possibly but definitely aren't going to give you a performance benefit

I got them to try out for reliability and durability.
Why would they make F’all difference to performance? Anyone who tells you that is selling them!

I run them and my butt dyno say my car runs better with them than with 1.8t coil. I have a dyno day in a few weeks and will swap them over then to compare at 20psi load on E85.

I changed to them because i got them at a really good price and was still running the original coilpacks after 6 and a half years, it was purely for reliability
However it did seem to idle smoother, placebo maybe?

i did dyno tests of these early last year to prove/disprove the "sales pitch myth" touted by folks selling them as "Performance Additions"

They are not "performance additions".. Simply.. Zero difference in power/torque on assorted plug gaps on a 230bhp 1.8t test motor.

However.... in real world driving, reports of slightly smoother running and small economy improvments have been made..

Not a cost penalty to use them.. so if yours are old and tired its not a bad thing to change to, but dont do it expecting ANY gains in actual power.. Its not going to happen.

thanks for this reply.
I was thinking that people may see some marginal improvements in mpg or idling, but as you hint this may be simply down to replacement of older parts, and also im sure that many people that have done this change have replaced or regapped sparks at the same time.

The thread on here from a tuner (clearly NOT you) i find particularly entertaining in one sentence stating they are the same as the 1.8T coils, and then go on to sell that as a peformance modification, but which needs the purchase of adapters that are not exactly cheap given what they are..

what annoys be in this situation is id love to get some definative clarificartion from the VAG group as to whether they are any different other than dimensionally. But we have no hope of this.

Well i fitted the coil packs to mine along with NGK 1 step colder spark plugs and it's made a hell of a difference for me, power delivery seems much better and just seems to respond better. The only thing i haven't done is reset the ecu which i will do tomorrow and then give a proper update when i do a 300 mile trip!

My old coil packs were not faulty and the plugs were still descent, i just wanted to give the 2.0 coils ago and drop to a cold running plug.

Interesting to know if people not running a remap are the one's that don't notice a difference as I've got a full turbo back exhaust and a map on mine.

Finally i get to write something!

Right then all in all i think the packs work, so far the throttle response is great and generally the car feels better. the car idles around 840......now what i don't think was a good move was the one step colder plugs.

Going to return back to the standard sparks i was running as i think these aint worth having, once i have swapped back the plugs will give another update to see if i am talking crap and it's the packs that are rubbish ;)

On another note it really is worth cleaning the ecu and getting the car to relearn i ended up buying a v checker pro which allows you to do everything that VCDS does but in a hand held, used that to do the clear down and throttle alignment and worked a treat.

This is a comparison of the setups i have been running all based on me using a tank of fuel and driving between 58-62 on motorway.

Usual trip is 80 miles a day 40 each way to work.

Standard Plugs, 1.8 Coils, Remap + Shell V-Power = Around 520-570 got 46 odd mpg most days but best was 47.7(Some how)
Standard Plugs, 1.8 Coils, Remap + Shell Fuel Saver = Around 420-480

1 Step Colder Plugs, 2.0 Coils, Remap + Shell V-Power = Around 440-480
1 Step Colder Plugs, 2.0 Coils, Remap + Shell Fuel Saver = Around 500-565

The 1 step colder setup has far better throttle response with the v-power and 2.0 coils, so if your after power it's a nice setup. From the point of view for getting the most miles out of the setup the fuel saver seams to be better i am guessing due to the plug running colder and the lower detonation point helps unlike the standard plus with v power where the plug runs hotter at the same speed hence the better mpg on the original setup.....hopefully your all following this!

From the fuel point of view i have just been looking at the receipts i have lying around....all of these are around the same point give or take a few litres either side. The one receipt i was looking for was the one after the 570 miles for the V-power as that was quiet an eye watering amount to fill up with.

Fuel Saver - 50.78 litres @ 1.349 = 68.50
V-Power - 51.71 litres @ 1.489 = 77.00

Personally i would rather run on the V-power but from a costing point of view if your not arsed about keeping the right foot down all the time Fuel Saver can help you save the £££......be it not much but if for instance say every week you could save £8.5 a fill up and £34 a month that aint to bad, you could treat the mrs to a meal or buy a new game lol

Before anyone says why don't i try tesco 99, i used to use it all the time but the car didn't run well on it. Now i was going to drop the old plugs back in at the weekend to see how many miles i could get from a tank with the 2.0 coils and give a comparison across the 3 setups but i depends on how quick i get the wiper motor off without smashing it up.
