2.0 TDI 140 - Oil Pressure Low Help

Hi All,

My friend has a 2.0 TDI 140 Stylance Leon (57 plate) with 83k on the clock. Coming home on Saturday, he turned into a road when engine cut out and he thought he had stalled but message on MFD said 'Oil Pressure Low'.

Car was recovered by AA who said it's either alternator or fuel pump. Car electrics all work, just won't fire up. Turns over fine, but nothing else.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Well it'll never start if there's no fuel getting to the engine.

Have you ruled out the alternator/ fuel pump?

Obviously I know it will never start if fuel pump has gone, reason I am asking is why would it throw up Oil Pressure Low if AA reckon it's a fuel pump?

Oil pump then?

Why is everyones answers so short on here, like I'm talking nonsense.

This is my question. The AA guy said fuel pump/battery issues, but he rec'd this message on the dashboard. I'm wanting to know if anyone had same issue and what was the fix? No point in AA man saying it's fuel relating when it says Oil Pressure related.

If it's Oil Pump, then is that the big failure these engines have?

THe secondary oil pump is known to fail on the leon fr 2.0 tdi 170.

Has he checked his oil levels? I had my car cut out on me and the oil was v.low when i first got my old leon fr tdi. It was ok after i topped it up

Just awaiting to hear back from him, said I'd ask around as garage cannot fit him in yet.

Didn't realise oil pump was issue on 170, as that's what I have - is that expensive when it goes?

It has been known to go on high mileage cars. And yes i think its very labour intensive

Wow! Could I be right? I was just ****ing guessing, I know **** all about cars apart from the basics :D

Mind you, low oil pressure = oil pump makes sense, just like low fuel pressure = fuel pump. That's the way I work :D

My guess is injector failure.

There is a massive thread all about the injectors failing and the car not starting. If so the new £1000 injectors will be under warranty because it's a known common fault and a safety issue.

This is a sticky right at the top of the MK2 section http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=268033

Or it could be loads of other faults. You just don't know until you get it scanned.

If the oil pressure light goes out after a few seconds of cranking the engine over (attempting to start it) then I would think that an oil pressure pump problem was ruled out.
